Notes Client / Other: Password dialog: make "At location" field properly react on character keystrokes again

Author: Stefan Meyer
Tags: location dialog
Idea:
When starting Notes I am prompted for password and my current location. In Notes 7 I could simply navigate in this dialog with the TAB key, and select the location by typing in its first character.

Notes 8 forces me to use the mouse. - At least to click into the field twice. Than the selection by character works.
Notes Client / Other: Import of picture files as a drag & drop action

Author: Stefan Meyer
Tags: import picture file drag and drop
Idea:

I can attach files to a RT field by simply dropping them from the (computer's) desktop. In case of a picture file, I import it afterwards. (Knowing that's double. But doing so I have the file and a preview...)

So what about pressing a key, like <i> (= [i]mport) and the picture file is not attached but imported? - Until a <right click and 'save picture as...> is there.

Notes Client / Core/Frameworks (Incl. sidebar, rich text editor): Replacing digits in a date field should mark a document to be dirty

Author: Stefan Meyer
Tags: date field input
Idea:

I open a document in edit mode and change a date. - Nothing more.

Leaving the document with <ESC> I sometimes am not asked if the changes shall be saved.

Why?

I mark part of the date, like the month, with the mouse and replace it by just typing the new month in.

This somehow does not mark the document as dirty. -> I can leave it without saving.

Workaround: Using the <BACKSPACE> or <DELETE> keys when changing the date. (But who likes to keep this in mind? :-))

Is there any reason in it? Or could this behaviour be changed?

Domino Designer / : Show a message when pasting a column would produce a duplicate $xxxx alias

Author: Stefan Meyer
Tags: column properties vview colum
Idea:

When designing a view: Columns with a computed value get a default alias starting with a "$" plus a number (e.g . "$259").

When pasting a column from a different view, I unintendedly can create columns with identical $-aliases. - This may produce side-effects like documents being shown in wrong categories or - hard to detect - date columns carrying a wrong date.

Can I have a message or popup telling me an alias is used twice? Maybe when saving the view?

... alright, I know, normally it is a good style to rename the $#### aliases. But why do I have to care about it?

Notes Client / Core/Frameworks (Incl. sidebar, rich text editor): Ability to Disable Workspace Pages per Location or User-ID

Author: Stefan Meyer
Tags: workspace workspace page location
Idea:

It would prevent me from clicking on inaccessible databases. (Okay: on their icons.)

A disabled workspace page should not be hidden, but its tab may be painted differently, maybe grayed out.

Why? - Some customers allow me to use my laptop at their site. I also work at different offices, at home or a university. So I can create several locations, one or more workspace pages and associate a Notes-id with it. - Notes is great for this.

The bad thing: from time to time I click on an application icon to get a message "no access": Or I have to wait until all servers have been tried out, ending up with "server is not responding". ... Does this also alert the local admins?!?

I frequently have to change my signature, for example when a fair is over or to invite for an event.

This can be done from my mail file using "Tools" -> "Preferences..." and selecting the tab "Signature".

-> The dialog is huge and could show the "Signature:" field 4-times bigger. Why is it so small?

Notes Client / Core/Frameworks (Incl. sidebar, rich text editor): Fixed Size for Standard View Navigator?

Author: Stefan Meyer
Tags: navigator resize
Idea:

Is it possible to give the default navigator (which shows the views in a Notes database) a fixed width?

I know, I can do so by implementing a frameset and fix the size of the left frame. But if there is no frameset, the navigator shrinks and grows with the application window.

Working at different locations, sometimes when using a 2nd monitor, the navigator shrinks to nearly invisible. Can I get a pin symbol button?

Notes Client / Core/Frameworks (Incl. sidebar, rich text editor): Richtext Field + some Text Fields: Double click on a word should just select the word - not a trailing blank behind it

Author: Stefan Meyer
Tags: Text editor Richtext double click String Word
Idea:

If there is a blank behind a word, it is also selected when double-clicking the word.A <CTRL> + <C> then copies this space character as well. This may lead to errors when the string is pasted somewhere.

Author: Stefan Meyer
Comment: Hm, it may not be a Notes specific topic. Meanwhile I've seen that some edit fields in different apps show this behavior as well.

Anyway, I'd like to have it. At least in Notes Designer. - For example: the forms editor selects a trailing blank on double click.
Most other fields are good now. :-)
