Idea:

With Domino 8, Lotus provided a free copy of db2 to use as the filestore. This will help you understand how to use the information in db2 to improve your server based applications. Build Query views that will show documents from different Domino database but work like a normal view to allow you to open the documents. Build a dynamic view that lest you select what data to show in any column, so you can reduce the number of views. Work with SQL queries to get the data you need, in the format you can use. Use JavaScript and JSON to create dynamic views for the web that change based on the parameters passed. What are the limitation and problems can occur like no grand total in views.

Comment: It would be helpful if they explained how to use federation to combine Notes and non-Notes data. I believe there are additional costs, but its definitely an opportunity.

Comment: It ships with Domino 8. I've used it in production for web apps and notes apps. It's great for apps that need alot of views, especially date range views. You may have to wait for a support person who know s both but they do have them.

Idea:

The Lotus Foundation resets the redirected tcp/ip to SSL selection on the server doc, when it starts up so you can't use any http access. The only choice to host a public website in Domino is to puchase a valid SSL cert.

It would be really nice is there was a option to select either Apache or Domino control port 80.

There are a lot of web based apps that could be used by SMB out on openntf.

To support Sametime or quickr this will have to change.

Comment: It does require purchaseing an enterprise version of db2. Then you can do that. The current license restricts the use to Domino based data only.

Comment: Yes, currently the apache server uses port 80.
I really don't want to resort to PHP to build apps. I'm having to purchase a SSL cert just to allow Domino to host web apps and nothave the unknow cert error for self certs.
I can make the home page redirect to SSL & Domino but it's a pain and it dosen't get spidered by search engines.

Comment: i agree, since the redirect to SSL option is always enabled (and set back if changed), then there is no way to do Domino w/o SSL. You can create a port forward on 80 to goto 60080 but it will always redirect to SSL. We have a cert, but most of our clients do not. However, since the main issue is webmail, the redirect of 4443 to 443, does fulfill the "main" problem of webmail access for internal users who would know (hopefully) to accept the self-cert SSL key.

This area needs to be updated and expanded with more examples. No access examples! DB2, Oracle, or SQL should be used.

Comment: To take the current lei, decs, dcr, etc. redbook content, put on the web and update them. They should be for all support LEI releases and the examples need to be real examples to DB2, Oracle or MS SQL and not MS access.

I should be able to see exactly how to do a virtual document using LEI8 and db2. The pros and cons.

There never seems to be updates to redbooks. Some of the older ones are great sources but need to have the content updated for the latest releases.

Notrix allows for this and it would let you do things like a join to pull all data instead of having to run multiple activities to get the data.

You could test the sql out in IBM DB2 developer or other product and then just paste that statement in.

The results of the sql would be available to be mapped to the Notes or other RDBMS field names.
