Make Swiftfile available on non-Windows Clients

The Linux and Mac Notes clients lack this powerful tool. With all clients being built on Eclipse, there should be better feature synchronization across platforms. But, it is only available on the Windows client. Sadly, IBM doesn't promote it much either and should--as it really helps people stay current with the new Inbox Maintenance feature.

I am more concerned about consistency and ensuring that good capabilities exist on all clients (excepting OLE, which is really a Windows only deal), rather than constantly footnoting my training that, "well, this is a good feature but it's not available on the Mac," or "you can have presence awareness through DWA8, but not through through a browser on Linux."

I agree it needs to be supported on all versions. I would go as far to say that it should be built in as a preference in the mail file. This is a differentiating feature that IBM needs to focus on

Agreed Steven. My preference would be for either a settings document field or a Notes Mail preference to enable it, over their extra EXE installation. Also, an option through Smartupgrade to include the installation would also be a time-saver, if not already built-in.

Ironically, the design code for Swiftfile is already hidden inside the mail template. The installation adds a couple of DLLs and flips the bit to enable the Swiftfile tab under mail preferences. Why they force admins to re-touch the desktop after a successful Notes setup for a very simple installation program makes little sense at this point.

IBM Lotus should re-think this installation and distribution process for this valuable add-on, imho.

I have asked this directly of the developers and told they can not do this for licensing reasons. No matter how we vote on this, it won't change

@3 Thanks for the insight. But know that everything in life changes with time--even licensing agreements. IMHO, that is not a show-stopper, just a barrier to success, which can passed. :)

Just a bit embarrassed to admit it, but I used Swiftfile for the first time today at and for a customer. The people that have seen this are just as excited about Swiftfile as they are the 8.5.1 upgrade! Except for the Mac folks (myself included).

Would like to see Swiftfile available for Mac and Linux clients.

@5 Thanks for sharing your experience, Tony. Great to hear.

I find Swiftfile to be a tremendous timesaver. A few times a day I process my inbox, trying to use the "touch it once" rule. The vast majority of the time, if I am going to file an email, Swiftfile presents the correct option among the links at the top of the message. It's just cruel to keep such goodness from non-Windows users.

@7 Good feedback. Glad to know you have such a positive experience with the capability. It is a 'good' tool.
