Notes Client / Other Database Applications: Make the Notes RSS Reader compatible to the RSS button in Firefox/IE

Author: Stephan H. Wissel
Tags: feeds rss subscriptions usability
Idea:

When discovering a new blog it takes one click on the RSS icon in the title bar to start the subscription process. In FF there is Blog Lines, Google Reader, FeedDaemon, RSSOwl, LiveBookmarks. Notes Client is missing, so it is cumbersome to add a feed. Add it to the list when installing/configuring Notes.

Quickr / : "My Subscriptions"-Page for Component Subscription in Websphere Quickr

Author: Steffen Gräbner
Tags: subscription subscribe subscriptions websphere quickr
Idea:

At the moment in Quickr it is not possible to get an overview of all personal subscriptions inside of Quickr.

Even not with the Feedreader-Komponent. Feed Reader only can adress ONE source.

So, for users it is very difficult to recognize in which place changes were made or content is updated.

If the starting page of quickr ("My-Places"-Portlet) would be more customizable, it would be beneficial if also my subscriptions could be configured.

This would allow a central overview on your subscriptions, without having to leave Quickr.

I know that you can a centralized overview on subscriptions via Notes 8.5 sidebar. But what if your company doesn't use 8.5? Or she uses 8.5 Basic-mode?

Second opportunity would be a third party feed reader. But it is third party, why should i use third party, when quickr has a feed-reader? Third party would mean to teach users to use third party eg.

Notes Client / Calendar: One-click iCal subscriptions via web

Author: John Smart
Tags: webcal ical ics calendar calendars subscribe subscriptions url uri
Idea:

Use Case: Samantha Daryn is a speaker for a conference. There are several calendar events as a speaker such as deadlines for submitting the presentation files and a special presenters-only meet and greet at the conference. The conference site has a link where we can subscribe to these events. When she clicks on it, her Lotus Notes client launches presents her with the "Add a Calendar" dialog box. Samantha accepts the defaults and just clicks "Ok". The events are automatically added to her calendar, and are automatically updated if they change.

Implementation: There is already a "webcal://" URI protocol in use on the web. Lotus Notes just needs to register itself as a recipient, which should open the user's calendar and bring up the dialog box to add a calendar with the URL correctly filled in.
