Domino Administrator / Other: Registration Dialog Box - Advance options...pls have ticked by default

It drives me nuts that everytime I go into the registration dialog box that I have to click Advance, pls have selected by default or always show advanced options, why wouldn't you?

Notes Client / Mail: Automatic creation of archive DB when registering (a) new user(s)

Author: Mathieu Pape
Tags: archive registration automatic archive
Idea:

When you register users, have an option to create an archive DB linked to the mailfile.

I'm in the middle of a migration of 500 users from Exchange. I can register the users via a text file but not create an archive DB for each one of them. This archive will in this case be used as target for their migrated Outlook data. Even with scripting this is difficult because you need to handle the archive profile etc...

I have tested an IBM idea : send a mail to all of those users, create an archiving policy to archive documents not modified in 1 day, launch a compact -a the next day .... very long and it doesn't work ! You have to open the mailfile and open the archive settings before it applies. Unacceptable, no?

Domino Administrator / Directory: On Server Registration, allow me to copy server security settings

When I'm registering a new server, I would like the ability to choose a baseline configuration for security/http/whatever settings. Basically a "use server doc from x server to populate security settings".

Domino Administrator / Admin Tools: Allow registration profiles to specify a certitier

Author: Danny Lawrence
Tags: registration CA Process
Idea:

When registering a new user via a registration profile it would be a good thing if the certifier could be specified as well. Currently you have to select the certifier and then choose the registration profile, if you could specify the certifier then someone registering a bunch of new users who needed different certifiers wouldn't have to restart the registration process every time s/he needed to change certifiers.

Domino Administrator / Admin Tools: Server Registration should be from the Server tab not configurations

Author: Keith Brooks
Tags: server registration
Idea:

As an Admin, I find it frustrating that I can clcik ont he People tab and then there is an option to register people in the right sidebar.

But click on Server and nothing.

I have to click on configurations to get server registration.

WHY?????

Please someone in Iris think like an Admin and make my life easier so the younger admins don't think I am hiding pertinent data from them.

Domino Administrator / Admin Tools: Registration Policy lockdown

Author: Bastian Wieczorek
Tags: Registration Policy Lockdown
Idea:

Do you have delegated the user registration to some special users? Does these special users sometimes create user with a pop3 mailsystem instead the in the registration policy configured Lotus Notes mailsystem? Or do they sometimes choose the wrong server when they create a mailfile (and you see that the user has a mailfile on your sametime or application server)? Or do they change some other parts which you set as default in your registration policy?

Yes?

Then vote for a registration policy lockdown feature. Similar to the desktop policy I would like to prevent this special user from changing some options (which I define in the policy document) with this policy.

The internet password option is only accessible if you click on the password option button in the registration dialog box. Also it is not very obvious and so many people miss selecting it. Please move it to an area where it is obvious.

Domino Administrator / Other: Registration dialog Box - change the order of the internet address fields

Author: Karen Hooper
Tags: internet address registration
Idea:

In the Addressing section of the registration dialog box the internet address field is the first field that you tab to, however if you tab to the internet domain field and add the internet domain it will build the internet address for you from the first name, last name and the address format and seperator. So many people think they have to type the internet address and therefore many make typing errors.

Domino Administrator / Other: Registration: Allow me to choose the default format for Mail Filename and ID Filename

Author: Brian Graham
Tags: registration
Idea:

When registering a user, I would love to set a default format for the mail filename and user ID. Policies get me so far, but still I have to change "jsmith.nsf" or "jsmith.id" to "joesmith.nsf" and "joesmith.id".

Why do we still have 8.3 filenames on anything anyhow? I thought we implemented LONG filenames in 1995. After 13 years, can we adopt a new standard? Even Robert Czhikovski's mail file defaults to 'rczhikov.nsf' (old 8.3 standard, instead of long filename).

Domino Administrator / Directory: Allowing for Forward address field to be populated when registering users with a text file

Author: Andy Donaldson
Tags: Registration
Idea:

Recently, our company has entered into an agreement to purchase another company. If you know where I work and you follow the business news, you know what I'm talking about. As part of our normal migration of users from a new company, we set up the users in Domino as if they were already on our mail system, but, we add in their current companies internet email address in the "Forwarding address" field in the Person Document so that any mail that is addressed to them at our domain, get sent to there's. Not a big deal. It's nice to have that in place so that when I migrate them from Exchange to Domino, the mail file and everything else is in place and all we need to do is remove the forward and migrate their stuff. But, it became a big deal when I was told the amount of users that are involved in this migration. Well over 1000. So I started looking into using the "Import text file" option available in the user registration screen. Really nice feature if you have uber amounts of people to add into Domino and you get a text file export from HR of usernames. But, it's not so nice if you have to do what I was describing above. There is a limitation to what the import can do. As I had found out through searching the web and talking with support, even though you enter in a forwarding address in the text document, when you register them in Domino it will not populate that field in their Person Document. The only way that field will get populated is if you select "Other Internet" or "Other" for Mail system. Only then will you see on the address tab the users other internet email address, but then you do not have any Lotus Notes information for the user available. So, this means that I will have to do one of two things:

1. Register everyone normally, then go in and cut and paste in the other internet email address to the Forwarding address field.

2. Register the user twice. Once with the Mail system set to Lotus Notes, and then a second time with Other Internet selected. Then when I register them for a second time, tell the registration process to update the person record for each user. Once that's done, go into each person document and switch the mail system back to Lotus Notes so that it shows all of the information.

Sounds like a lot of work, doesn't it? I'm sure that there is some code that could be written to help with this process, but then that involves adding more people to the mix and making the process harder than I think it should be. It would be nice if that in the Domino Admistrator when you import that text file, it will register the user as a Lotus Notes user with the Forwarding address information added.
