Symphony: Stop making me close the property boxes!

Idea: The Symphony apps all launch with right-docked property boxes open. Don't want them open? Maybe 'cause you're not on a 3000x2600 screen like most IBM people appear to have? Well, close them then. Every. Single. Time. There is no preference. There is no memory of previous choice. There is only the assumption that everyone wants to waste screen real estate with property boxes all the time.

Ok, rant mode off. For now, anyway.

Idea:

This is a pretty simple idea. There should be an security/mail preference to block images on html emails similar to what Yahoo and Gmail offer. Yahoo allows the user to block images by default and then show the images when a user clicks on the link in an open email. Google does one better, by allowing the user to remember to show images for certain senders.

Idea:

I wasting daily time on formatting rich text items such as links (color, format) , tables (number of rows, columns), font-types, font-sizes etcetera.

It seems not possible to define 'my style' and have it easy available for me.

Would it be easier to have in stead of the 'defaults' the ability to set 'my defaults' and be able to work from there?

Idea:

When you open the Notes Client Preferences dialog and access the "Basic Notes Client Configuration" section there are numerous items in the "Additional Options" box. The items may be in some functional order, but it would be much more useful (and easier to assist users) if they were simply presented in alphabetical order.

Idea:

Many Notes users like to be notified when they receive new email or have an upcoming meeting. They have choosen to receive these notifications during their normal work day. However when they are using their PC to show a slide deck during a meeting these pop-ups take the focus away from the presentation. To prevent these pop-ups the user could log out of Notes, but that is not how they work. Typically they just undock their laptop and run off to their meeting and start their presentation. Shutting down any running applications is extra and unnecessary work.

Wouldn't it be nice if the user had an option in these dialog boxes to suppress all Notes client pop-ups for a period of time so they could continue to conduct their presentation without disturbing the flow of the meeting?

Idea:

I would like to see the ability to customize the way my Notes (and other) clients operates soly through my user preferences. Adding a tab that accesses the contents of my Notes.ini file and allows me to set/add values would mean I would have one spot where all these setings can be views/maintained and most people would not even need to know that the INI file is there.

Idea:

Preferences - Basic Notes Client Configuration - Additional Options list. It is a major pain to find any particular option in this list. Even worse when you try to guide a user to find an option. There are 43 items in this list as of Notes 8.5.2. The list should be numbered so each preference can be referenced by number making them easier to find.

Also see the linked idea about context-sensitive help so users can get help on these options.

The default server in the Open Application dialog is always reset to 'Local'. This is annoying if you use the shortcut Ctrl+O to open databases - oohps, applications. Our applications are NEVER local, and even if you work locally it would still make more sense to keep the last used server.

Currently, a log on the Client is useless, because it does not save the information from the "Client console" (status bar) in log.nsf.

In the setting of the Client ("File -> Preferences...") there Log Settings, which has a tick "Enable Logging". Set it, but it does not affect on the recording in the log. Moreover, if you close Notes Client, and then open, then this ticked in the settings is disabled! That is, when you restart the client it spontaneously reset.

Also, nothing can help "Monitoring Configuration" on local (events4.nsf), because the settings can be done only for servers. Generaly purpose of this database "on local" is unclear...

Total, in a local log are heaps of documents with similar content:

Please, make the ability to save information from the status bar in the log, this is especially useful during the development and debugging applications.

Notes Client / Mail: Provide a configurable path for saving mail attachments

Idea:

We try to have our users Save and Delete attachments from their mail, which they are generally happy to do.

My users have told me that Outlook users can define the preferred path for saving attachments, and complained that this is lacking in Notes and asked for this functionality.

In my opinion this a reasonable request, especially if the need is to save to a file folder far down a folder-tree on a file server, which is the case for many of our engineers.
