Domino Administrator: Calendering Administration

As new staff arrive taking over responsibilities from the old the inevitable question arises...

Can I switch Jane Doe's Meeting invitation's over to Jane Doe 2.0?

I would love to have an option in the mail template (not an agent I write that gets overwritten with each upgrade) which could "transfer" ownership of a meeting from one user to another.

Domino Administrator: A way to disable all scheduled agents in a Database or a Directory

Author: Matt White
Tags: administration
Idea: On our dev server, one of the backup strategies we use is simply to copy a database once a day into a backups directory. The problem is that all of the scheduled agents continue to run so over time logs get clogged up and the server has an increasing load to deal with.

So what I'm looking for is a way that I can disable all scheduled agents in a database (or ideally in a directory) with a single click.
Or maybe even a permissions list to set who can/can't do this?
Domino Administrator: Allow an ID to be selected to sign a database with

Author: Sean Burgess
Tags: notes administration
Idea: Instead of having to switch IDs just to sign a database, it would be much easier to be able to just select the ID file you want to use to sign with, put in the password, and do the signing. This would be similar to the way you can choose the certifier when going to register an ID. This is incredibly important when you use a central ID to sign all code that goes into production.
Domino Administrator / Other: NSF Comparison Tool

Author: Richard Schwartz
Tags: tools administration development troubleshooting replication
Idea:

A tool for note-by-note comparison of nsf files. I envision it as a dual-paned NotesPeek, with filtering options like:

- Show notes with unids not found in other database

- Show notes with same unid but different oid

- Show notes with same unid but value(s) in field(s) don't match

This would be invaluable (IMHO) for analyzing those pesky situations where two replicas of the same database just don't seem to match up. Could also be valuable for audit purposes ('show me all the changes in this db since the backup taken on day X).

And of course, the final logical step would be drag-drop between the two panes to manually restore missing/deleted notes, bring different copies of the same note into synch, etc.

Sametime / Other: Allow sametime settings be saved when switching IDs

Author: Deb Carpenter
Tags: Notes_Client administration sametime sametime_settings Release_8
Idea:

Our user community has been in the practice of switching IDs (to either special IDs for security purposes or user IDs). In Release 8, when a user switches IDs, all Sametime settings are lost and the user must reset everything and log back into Sametime.

As I understand it, IBM made this change as an enhancement. The Sametime data is saved to a text file and once the user selected File/Security/Switch IDs, the information in that text file is wiped out. The problem is when the user switches back to his/her ID, the Sametime settings are not restored.

IBM needs to save these settings saved to an ID related file so when the user logs in or switches back to his/her ID, the settings are still there for that user.

Add feature to configure the Proxy Username and Password within the Security Policies. We use Websense to block websites and were previously entering user IP address to allow them access to a given website. This is not the optimal way to allow this type of access. We have many proxy servers around the world and currently use policies to set the proxy servers in the users location document but the policy does not have a location to configure the proxy username/password. We have developed a workaround for getting this out ot every users desktop but it is just that, a workaround.

Domino Server / Security: Restrict access to server configuration info

Author: Leonard Gray
Tags: domino directory server administration
Idea:

As internal data security becomes more and more of a concern, allowing end-users access to server configuration information poses more of a risk than when the Domino Directory was first envisioned and implemented.

While we can make customizations to the Domino Directory to accommodate our needs, the product "off the shelf" should have a configuration option that will let system administrators restrict access to server configuration info (i.e. all of the "server\" and "policy\" views) in the Domino Directory.

Domino Server / Admin Tools: An improved forms based GUI for Notes.Ini variables

Author: Scott Edwards
Tags: Notes.ini server administration
Idea:

Currently Notes.ini variables on the server can be set in a few ways; by directly editing the Notes.ini, using the Notes.ini tab on the server config doc, or issuing a set config <variable>=<value> command at the console.

Some notes.ini settings are set through various options in both the server doc and config doc.

The Notes.ini tab mostly requires some knowledge of existing Notes.ini variables with a bit of guidance for some of the older options.

What would make things a lot easier would be a form in the Config doc that lists all available configuration settings currently only available through settings Notes.ini variables and nowhere else, with a description of what it does and a list of options. Each one can be ticked on or off to set or unset it, with radio buttons, checkboxes or text fields for the different settings available.

Author: Oliver Regelmann
Tags: administration domino linux
Idea:

I guess everyone who installed Domino on Linux yet had to somehow generate init-scripts to run it as daemon. There are some options available to do this:

- using Daniel Nashed's scripts

- grabbing the one linked in some old redbook

- DIY writing

It would be nice if Domino delivered those scripts with the setup and could be run as daemon out of the box as it can as service on Windows.

Domino Server / Admin Tools: Better Archive criterias

Author: Enio Basso
Tags: archive mail administration policy
Idea:

Today when enable an archive criteria for a mail database we have only 2 options:

Not modified

Expired

I´d like to the use more complex archive criteria like:

Archive Bigger Documents

Not archive documents with attachments like .mpg, .mp3, .wma, .jpg

use an @formula to set archive or not a document

With the possibility to definy in User mail database or throw a Policy Archive Settings document

Domino Administrator / Admin Tools: Register New User browse to place mail file button

Author: David Vasta
Tags: Create User administration
Idea:

So if you have ever created a new user and you open the little box that lets you set up the user. They have spent a great amount of time making that a great dialog box. On the tab where you set up the mail file it would be nice to have a little button like every other place to browse to the path of the place you are going to place the mail file instead of making typos and having to write it on a pad and type it in.

When you have over 25K users and 30 or so mail folders/locations on a mail server it gets hard to manage and if there were a way to select the folder like when you create a new DB.

Please vote this up. It is long over due and for someone who sets up over 30 new users a week it would be a huge help.

Domino Administrator / Admin Tools: expose profile documents to the UI for editing

Author: Peter Moline
Tags: profile administration edit
Idea:

I would like some way of viewing, editing and deleting profile documents in Notes databases, without having to resort to writing LotusScript. Perhaps this could be done by adding a tool under Files in the Admin client.

PS - if you choose to vote this down, a comment as well would be appreciated - cheers, P

Domino Server / Admin Tools: Check NSD.exe version on server startup

Author: Chuck Hauble
Tags: administration NSD
Idea:

Having an incorrect version of NSD.exe on a server can be a nightmare when trying to troubleshoot server crash issues. Could the server process at start up check to see if the correct NSD version is available based on the version of the server code and display a warning if it is an older version.

Domino Server / Data Storage and Management: Full-text indexes: Specify dedicated location

Author: Harkpabst Meliantrop
Tags: administration full-text enhancement performance
Idea:

Full-text indexes are stored in folders (named after the .nsf file), that always reside in the same subfolder as the .nsf file itself. I propose to add an option to the server document, to place all full-text indexes into a dedicated location, similar to specifying the log path for transaction logging.

Reasoning

Many administrators are concerned about the number of full-text indexed databases (and the granularity of indexing) they want to allow: they are concerned about the storage space eaten up and the amount of disk I/O.

On the other hand, for some databases, full-text indexes are strictly recommended (Condensed Directory Catalog), absolutely required (searchable web applications) or at least very, very handy. Additionally, users get more and more used to the "google way" of managing their data: searching instead of filing.

While it might not be necessary for IBM to target search capabilities on par with (or in excess of) Google, a dedicated storage location for full-text indexes would address the issues mentioned above:

It would be a lot easier to add more storage space just for indexes

Disk I/O could be spread over more physical disks or even controllers

I'm not sure how much performance would be to gain by this move, but maybe it would even be possible to increase the indexing frequency.
