Idea:

You used to be able to switch to the same location currently in use. This was handy because if you switched ID files (without switching locations) you could easily switch back by just reselecting your location. (be sure to have the ID assigned in the location doc.) However, with the locations moved to the modal dialog box, they also made the current location unselectable, so you have to first switch to a different location, then switch back. Not a big deal for most people, but for people who switch to other IDs often (like admins, helpdesks and devs) it does matter.

This would be a bug but that it was changed intentionally.

Comment: Just make a copy of the current location and specify another ID file in it. Rename it accordingly. E.g. "Online - AJolie" and "Online - BPitt".

Comment: Yes. I am familiar with creating separate locations for switching between a few specific IDs. If you are a developer, this may not add value for you. But as an administrator or helpdesk technician, you are switching to a different ID every time, not the same ones like a developer might. This worked in the past. I would consider this a bug, however, IBM Support reports it is "working as intended".

Comment: Switch location will also calculate some other options (mailfile, server, connections....) - if you are able to switch to the same location, it will need some time. if ibm will develop your idea, i hope they do not "switch" all - they should check each option, if it has changed.

Comment: You can test out how it worked if you have an installation of Notes 7.x, or probably if you run 8 in basic mode it will do it too. I haven't tried.

Remember this would normally be a regression bug but that this change was intentional. IBM thought they were doing us a favor by disabling the ability to switch to the current location as they did not realize the benefits.
