Domino Administrator / Admin Tools: In the Server Console, save last commands in notes.ini

Author: Sjef Bosman
Tags: server console commands
Idea:

On the Server Console, in the Admin client, it is possible to manually input the command one wants to be executed. To repeat commands, the Arrow-Up key will walk through the list of commands most recently entered. The list is always empty when the Admin client is started.

I'd like to give the list a more permanent character, so that I walk through the commands when I invoke the Admin client again.

The list could simply be stored in the notes.ini file of the user. An additional notes.ini parameter could be useful to indicate hte size of the list.

Author: The Turtle
Comment: More to the point, it would be a real PITA when multiple admins hit the same box. If you wanted to store them in the INI for just the most recent admin, the next admin who comes along would have to wade through all the previous admins' commands. And if you stored something in the INI to indicate which admin certain commands belonged to, the NOTES.INI would rapidly end up looking like a database, which it is not.
Author: Bill Malchisky
Comment: I concur with @1 and @2 Sounds nice, but difficult to cleanly implement. The admin client is not a database itself, so that kills the use of profile documents within the client to store it. So, you would either need to create a separate DB to store that data (too much overhead for a simple task), or insert data into a system DB which might cause issues, if there are admin groups in the ACL with different access levels, or to impact a system database -- not a best practice.
Author: Ralph Borcherds
Comment: You can save the commands you most often use in the admin client. Good for those commands that have specific command syntax such as

tell amgr run "DBName" 'Name of agent'

You notice that the name of the DB is in double quotes while the agent name is in single quotes. Save that syntax as a generic command and they you do not have to look it up again.

This does not solve the issue of switching machines.
