Author: Jerry Carter
Comment: Hm. Click promote... and it goes up one. Seems clear to me, but I'm an english speaking person. Maybe instead of promote and demote, a green arrow up and red arrow down?
Author: Phil Randolph
Comment: I'm with Henry...in at least one case...I think perhaps up/down arrows would help along with the words (and still not take up to much more room).
Author: Henry Ferlauto
Comment: I think promote / demote works.

You could also have a ton of other antonym pairs:
Yes / No
Agree / Disagree
Yea / Nea
Up / Down
Awesome / Sucks
etc.

I do agree with another idea posting that there could also be up down arrows in addition to or in lieu of promote / demote.

If the decision were made to use both, the box itself would have to grow in size, which I am generally in favor of for a variety of reasons.
re: Are the Promote and Demote actions clear?

Author: Charles Robinson
Comment: Take a look at the comments here to see how ComputerWorld does it: { Link }

That's pretty clean and simple. What about an up arrow and a down arrow with opacity so you can show the total number behind? Just show the number until someone mouses over, then show an up arrow that's green and a down arrow that's red.
Author: Tim Tripcony
Comment: If you add the same icons you use in the voting details section, the text could be next to (or partially overlap) the icon.

This probably belongs in its own idea, but I'd like to see GMail-style keyboard shortcuts; i.e., P promotes, D demotes, I creates a new idea... unless you're already focused in a field like this one.
Author: Cristian D'Aloisio
Comment: Instead of Promote/Demote small links, I would use 2 simple icons:
Thumb Up
Thumb Down

Simple and effective, since Colisseum arena in ancient Rome ! ;-)

In my opinion, Promote/Demote links are small and not so clear for many Italian people...

Author: Bill Malchisky
Comment: I like the concept of Promote/Demote. Quite nice and clear. I dislike overtly simplified prose. :) Now, we have many in the community that are multi-lingual and I can see some confusion there. Appending a thumbs up/down to the existing nomenclature might work well for everyone. But as always, ymmv.
