Notes Client / Mail: DWA Lite: Automatically checking for new messages

Author: Theo Heselmans
Tags: dwa inotes lite
Idea:

I just love the new DWA lite ! It's fast, great looking, tabbed, ... .

The only thing I miss is the 'Automatically checking for new messages'.

You don't get a notification when new mail comes in, forcing you to 'refresh' the inbox manually.

Updated: Making this checking optional (by the user) is preferable.

Author: Rob McDonagh
Comment: You're all going to think I'm crazy, but hear me out. DWA Lite is designed for low bandwidth environments. Since all of my users live in that sort of environment, I have a lot of experience with it, and I just want to point out that any unnecessary request is a Bad Thing. A lot of us are using DWA Lite ourselves because it's fast and it looks cool, and that's all good. But it's aimed at people on dialup or satellite or CDMA. Auto-refresh in those environments is not desirable.
Author: Matt White
Comment: It's a very good point Rob, but I still think it would be nice to at least offer auto refresh as an option, whether that's for the user or admin to enable / disable I don't really mind.
Author: Rob McDonagh
Comment: @Matt - Yes, agreed. Options are good, I like options. If the idea was amended to request an optional auto-refresh, it would have my vote, no question.
Author: Theo Heselmans
Comment: @Rob & @Matt: I added the 'optional' feature.
For me this was 'implied' in my request. Most 'additions' should be optional.
@Rob: you can change your vote now ;-)
Author: Bruce Elgort
Comment: Gret idea Theo. I am using DWA for Elguji / IdeaJam and I think manually refreshing is very 2002.
Author: Vinod Seraphin
Comment: I think folks will be pleased with 8.5.1. Will be available in both lite mode and full mode.
