Notes Client / Contacts: Contacts not in separate database

Author: Richard Doone
Tags: contacts template
Idea:

For some time now the Personal Address Book in Notes has been separate to the mail file. To synchronise contacts with web clients or mobile clients until R8 users have had to manually synchronise the contacts and they are placed in a hidden view. In R8 there's the automatic synchronisation on the replicator tab. I don't think this goes far enough. Why not rename the PNAB as a local settings db (for loc and conn docs, etc.), and move all contacts (and related functionality) to a visible view in the Mail file. It's more intuitive for end users and allows remote management for admins and developers.

Author: Luis Guevara
Comment: Lotus seems to be moving in this direction with the addition of the replicator tab option. It would have been great to do it all at once in the new 8 client, but perhaps they are looking at it as baby steps :)
Author: Franco van Vuuren
Comment: As a consultant, I work with different id's, as well as different mail files. With this one will loose your contacts between mail files, and / or they will become out of sync. If this is a feature, one should be able to sync between different contacts.
