Remove the spalsh screen (02 Mar 2008)You can just delete or replace C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\framework\shared\eclipse\ plugins\com.ibm.notes.branding_8.0.1.20080214-1630\splash.bmp with your own picture. |
Keep the C++ API alive (20 Feb 2008)Giev edit button... or remove "never" word from above post. |
Keep the C++ API alive (20 Feb 2008)Notes C++ API is questionable, but the Notes C API is the most important interface to Domino databases. You can remove Java, LotusScript, Notes Client, Notes Designer, whatever, but never leave us the Notes C API, it's what ISVs use to build new technologies for Domino. Like the new OpenSource/Commercial Lotus Traveller project for Symbian Platforms, like for Nokia Communicator E90, the best (only?) phone for business needs on the planet. |
Rounded Corner tables (18 Dec 2007)Rounded courners are obsolete, it was just a fashion trend. If you see anywhere rounded corners you can say "omg this site is so 1980!" :) What' IN now are now sharp corners, and also slant corners, but both in 3D style. The addinional kick comes from the virtually non existant microfades of colors, like seen in Notes 8 Standard. It just gives the feel that it looks better, but the eye can't tell why. And then AmigaOS 4.0 is just around the corner and will show once again to the whole IT industry how things should be done, for the next 20 years again. |
"Contact" class structure needed (14 Dec 2007)Yes, same vote as on the Plaxo synchronization idea. |
File\Database\Open... by Replica ID (14 Dec 2007)Some server may have also multiple replicas on the same server (for RAM performance, backups, etc...), so a simple REPLID would only cause confusion and incoherence. |
We need a Plaxo connector (14 Dec 2007)I've never heard of Plaxo before, but a quick Google showed that it has more than 15 million users. So, it would be indeed useful to support Plaxo. |
You need to login prompt - add link to login (21 Nov 2007)@2 - Yeah, I feel your pain. It's not IdeaJam's fault, but the core HTTP task functionality of Domino. I'm also running several huge Web Apps on Domino, and those lacks just have to be "fixed" by informing users about the restrictions. |
"Keep me logged in" option please (21 Nov 2007)This is a crosslink, dunno how to make those fancy circles :) { Link } |
You need to login prompt - add link to login (21 Nov 2007)The core problem is that IdeaJam does not really remember your login. Check out boards which are using SMF, PHPBB, or basically ANY Non-Domino board, they all remember your login. Domino 9 must come soon, I can't believe how Lotus has been slacking on the improvement of Domino, which is their MAIN product. |
ALL speakers need to provide presentation slides (21 Nov 2007)Truly basic quality stuff. Presentations in Office 95 PPT/ODF format should be mandatory. Yet alone the fact that some people in LotuSphere would like to visit concurrent chronical sessions, and in addition that they want to review the sessions with their colleaques back at their office. |
We might need a 'report user' option... (21 Nov 2007)@5 - Exactly, constructive criticism is the best a developer can get. He assumes his product is working fine, so positive comments are nice to hear, but they don't make the product better in any way. |
We might need a 'report user' option... (21 Nov 2007)How about if Demotes would require a comment? Promotes are usually trivial and need no explanation like "Yes", "I agree", etc... |
Quicker access to Refresh/Replace Design (21 Nov 2007)I use always keyboard shortcuts to replace design. A simple Alt-FTF, Cursor down, Enter. It's like pressing one key when you get this macroed into your fingers. |
Quickr 9.0 should support Domino 8 Linux, Fedora servers and workstations (21 Nov 2007)Fine, I can come up with the business costs of SUSE Enterprise Linux, but just make Quickr to run on it too. This IS supposed to be the only good platform at the moment, and IBM should support "the only good" platform. |
Support for Domino for MacOSX Server (21 Nov 2007)MacOSX is just another Unix clone. There are far better server optimized Linux distributions for server performance, SUSE Enterprise as a default recommendation. |
Bring back the Lotusphere CLP Discount (21 Nov 2007)SPCPL people should also get treated like Kings. They should get free LotuSphere invitation, and a limousine with a chauffeur to drive them around DisneyWorld at any time of the day. |
Support Lotus Domino on Ubuntu Server (21 Nov 2007)Ubuntu is like the "Windows" of the Linux world. No-brainer installation and use. But it also is not meant to be optimized for certain purposes. Fedora has a "soft mode" selection between Client and Server installation, but that's about it. If you're looking for real hardware optimized server solutions, check out SUSE Enterprise or CentOS. So far SUSE has beaten all platforms in pure I/O performance, and only AIX6 is getting closer to challenge it. |
Additional field: 'IBMs statement' (20 Nov 2007)@6 - 1) I don't mean an assimilation of IBM, the control and ownership should always stay at the OpenNotes community, that gives more credibility (not that IBM would be incredible, it's just more the voice of free will). What I'm saying is that numbers count, nothing else. Yes, IdeaJam came out of Beta quite recently, so the natural base of users will still raise over time, but some marketing would also speed up the process. |
For server-based replicas, when choosing File-Replication-Replicate-Replicate With Options..... (20 Nov 2007)A server replicating with itself is a very possible scenario. I use this feature to replicate real-time transaction data from a 4GB RAM disk to the hard drive replica databases of the same Domino server. RAM Disks are unavoidable when you have 300000+ users who perform several item transactions per second. |
Link or application in startup folder should only start in one location (20 Nov 2007)More user-based customization is always good. |
Since MAPI-support has been removed, Notes should have a standard API to access email functions (20 Nov 2007)There are Standard APIs to support Notes mail functions: OLE/COM/C API. Of course C API works the best, but has longer development times. The Visual Basic COM interface is the easiest to program, but it has many bugs due to Microsoft Office. A pure Visual Studio Basic program overcomes those bugs. I suggest using Visual Basic 6, as newer versions of Visual Basic are crap, and lower the development time again. |
automatically return to idea view after voting on idea (20 Nov 2007)I've have suggested a similar idea earlier, when posting a comment returned you to the home page of Idea Jam. But votes on this too. |
I wish Symphony could read Office 2007 files (20 Nov 2007)Please, do not support Office 2007 file formats. Make the users learn to save as Office 95, and later on as ODF. |
Add Travelling Time to Meetings (20 Nov 2007)Nice idea! |
Disabled resources in Resources view (20 Nov 2007)Sure, if it helps Admins. |
Do not notify me about my own comments (20 Nov 2007)Off, you know what you commented, no need to repeat it as mail. |
"Keep me logged in" option please (20 Nov 2007)I don't think Domino supports that yet, or maybe with some secret trick. Domino 9 will have more love on the HTTP task, I can't wait for it! |
Restrict Readers automation (20 Nov 2007)Quickr servers should always be on the internet. If you make them intranet only, then you get problems like that with Anonymous. Less security, more common sense. |
.Net components for Domino (20 Nov 2007)@5 - No. |
Additional field: 'IBMs statement' (20 Nov 2007)To get some attention from IBM, the highest voted item should have far more votes. 96 votes does not really represent the whole Notes community yet, no matter if it includes unvoted votes. When we start to see total votes like 300000+, then IBM should automatically start to pay attention to the voice of the community. So lets spread the word about IdeaJam even more! |
I wish the Productivity Editors could read Office 2007 files (20 Nov 2007)I don't care if ODF is stopped. If it's perfect, there's no need to improve it :) Microsoft OpenXML format was rejected by the Standardization Organization, so ODF is at the moment THE Standard for office files. OpenOffice users save their files of course still in Office 95 format, so that a broader audience can use them. But in future, more and more people should start to use ODF, and then it's not needed to save as Office 95 anymore. A new standard would take again years before it's supported by all users. |
Additional field: 'IBMs statement' (20 Nov 2007)I think this is a good solution, since at the moment IBM is using their own internal sites to decide about final stuff, but they should be more open to the public. This is not (yet) an official IBM suggestion site, but I would like to see become it one. |
Consistent boolean values in @Formula and LotusScript (20 Nov 2007)Instead of using @Formula, Notes/Domino should be improved to be able to use LotusScript everywhere instead of Formula. |
Consistent boolean values in @Formula and LotusScript (20 Nov 2007)So basically, you want that an expression like: Flag = Evaluate("@True")(0) can be macroed as Flag := @True I don't know if this is such an good idea, if it would still internally use Evaluate. |
ready made colour schemes to apply to a form/view/whole app (20 Nov 2007)I like black background with green text! Nothing beats a real mainframe terminal. You could try Lotus Quickr, it has a one mouse click Theme changing. Lotus Quickr has lots of features which people are even nowadays making from scratch or trying to reproduce. It's a waste of time and money. You can customize the Quickr templates to your business needs (although there is seldom a need to). You can't do that in SharePoint, you will even lose all data when changing a "Theme" or "Template". |
I wish the Productivity Editors could read Office 2007 files (20 Nov 2007)I would strongly recommend Office 2007 (and other Office versions too) users to upgrade to OpenOffice. Keeping up Microsoft's exotic formats gives really no business benefit to anyone. |
Allow replying to a particular comment, not just the main idea (20 Nov 2007)Good idea, Crysis boards from Electronics Arts has a pretty nice solution to make boards look like flat, but still keep the tree structure: { Link } |
Create WCM Rich Client based on Expeditor (19 Nov 2007)I've heard rumours that WebSphere and Domino will be joined as one product in future, so probably all components and features will be available in Notes/Domino then too. |
.Net components for Domino (16 Nov 2007)I don't hate Microsoft because they are huge, I hate them because they are doing absolutely everything wrong. Windows, BizTalk, Intel based, .NET, DirectX 10 for Vista only, Vista itself, no backward compatibility, no stability, full of security holes, full of lies in marketing, etc... Just look at IBM, although IBM is also not the best, but at least they do things much much better than Microsoft. The best is still OpenSource. |
Allow easy remote access (telnet/ssh) to the server console from Linux (16 Nov 2007)I strongly agree with Daniel. The Java client is a nice experiment, but not really ready for production. Linux should either have a native C++ Admin Client or a way to use text mode remote shell (servers don't usually need/have graphics cards and UI's). |
Give attendees a DVD/USB with all presentation PDFs on it (16 Nov 2007)Please not PDF. My computer doesn't have a program which can read PDF file format. I would prefer ODF or HTML, since it works on any computer. Quickr site would be good too, then I don't need any programs on my computer. |
IBM Should Change the Slide Templates (16 Nov 2007)True dat. I've experience too often that people are not aware of how small their text is presentation actually is. And in additional lots of text on one page, is completely ignored. If you want the text to mean and say something, make it big and standalone. Even better with some bass sound effects. |
Form Property to exclude from FT Indexing (16 Nov 2007)My search engine has already the option to select only wanted fields for the index. That reminds me again to prepare the demo for Bruce :) |
Increase Field Size (16 Nov 2007)Yes, the 16K and 32K limits have been around for too long. Doing all fields with RichText is too cumbersome. Make the text fields 4GB of size, as Strings in LS are too. |
Bring back the Lotusphere CLP Discount (16 Nov 2007)In addition to the CLP title, there should be also a distinct PCLP title, and even an superior SPCPL certification, and each should be completely seperate for Admin/Dev paths. Each time the number of people who earned the highest certification, there should be added a new, even more difficult certifaction. Only that way companies can distinquish between low end CLP and high end CLP persons. |
.Net components for Domino (16 Nov 2007)No thanks, Lotus should get rid of all Microsoft components. STL, OpenGL, OpenAL, Newton SDK, RakNet, is all you need, for all applications, for all platforms. |
Quickr should fully support Mac clients (i.e. a Mac connector pack) (13 Nov 2007)I think Mac is a nice platform, but it has one BIG mistake: it's not OpenSource! And even that it's technically possible to install Mac OSX on any PC, Mac forbids it. That is so lame and childish. Go Fedora 8! |
Increase number of votes for BOF Sessions (13 Nov 2007)Forget about Lotus rules, use Idea Jam! Print out the voting list from Idea Jam for BOF sessions (you need to post the idea of course first), I'm sure IBM'er are VERY aware of this site by now. If not, I wonder what they get paid for. |
Quickr 9.0 should support Domino 8 Linux, Fedora servers and workstations (13 Nov 2007)I think the chances to get many companies to switch from Windows to Linux are very good at the moment. I see a lot of people complaining about Vista, and Windows XP will have no support in a year of two, and Fedora 8 was just released, which was easier to install than Windows for me. Notes works, OpenOffice works, and Wine/VirtualBox can take care of many old Windows apps. |
Implement Sender Policy Framework / Sender Rewriting Scheme (12 Nov 2007)Spam filters which don't really analyze or understand the message like a human does, should not be used at all. |
Make the Gateway not to require DB2 (12 Nov 2007)Domino outperforms DB/2 in many areas, but DB/2 also outperforms Domino in many areas. The sad thing however is that you get DB/2 for free if you are it with Domino, but the Domino to DB/2 interface is very slow, and could be made 1000 times faster with a simple hack. |
Allow Lotusscript control of table cell colours etc (12 Nov 2007)The whole Rich Text idea is kinda corrupted. There should be only HTML, which the Notes client displays exactly in the same way as Firefox. People should remember that the whole idea of the Notes Client was to be a world-wide TCP/IP browser, somehow Mozilla was faster and won the race, but it's not too late to adopt to the current standards. |
Grey Workspace, still after all these years? (12 Nov 2007)Yes, I hope Notes 9 will use OpenGL 2.0+ to show the workspace texture as a 3D face with bumpmapping, normal mapping, specular mapping, displacement mapping, etc... All standard stuff for 3D engines. |
Release a trial version of Quickr (and Connections) (12 Nov 2007)LOL, Quickr is probably the easiest program to install ever. I just installed it today (Quickr 8.0.0.2). It doesn't ask anything, just a user name for the Admin. However, Quickr 8.0.0.2 is still very early in development, although it's acceptable stable. If you tolerate to downgrade a Domino 8.0 x32 server to Domino 7.0.2FP2 and all Vista x64 Enterprise and Fedora 8 x64 workstations to Windows XP x32, it works OK. |
Lotus Notes Express (12 Nov 2007)I think Notes/Domino should be OpenSource, it would really speed up the development. IBM still gets enough money from POWER6+ CPU systems, as there are no noname-POWERx system that I know of :) |
Improve notes.net forums (08 Nov 2007)Well, I didn't say anyone could use the configuration area, so if you say it's for Admins only, it can work as well (as long as they are actively tracking new needs and requests for areas). |
IdeaJam still uses Domino FTI? (08 Nov 2007)I sent you a mail. |
Search results don't show contents since 2007-11-05 (08 Nov 2007)K thx :) |
Search results don't show contents since 2007-11-05 (08 Nov 2007)I think you didn't understand my issue. When I enter "wow" in the search I get 3 entries, but they don't show the content of the comments, just the links. |
Search results don't show contents since 2007-11-05 (08 Nov 2007)I searched for "wow" too, and I see no contents in the search result. Are you using Firefox? |
Places history (08 Nov 2007)Wow, Quickr! I'm getting my own Quickr server next monday too, I'm so gonna Bang Bang Sharepoint down, when presenting it to all Managers in our company :) Actually I still need Quickr 8.1 which fusions the J2EE and Domino version of Quickr into one simple term, and runs on Domino 8 x64 too. But yes, history display is a good general feature, my votes up. |
Right-click > Open in Client from Designer w/Notes 8 Standard is broken (07 Nov 2007)It's sometimes difficult to say what is a bug and what is an intentional change in Notes 8 Standard, so lets make it simple: anything which works in Notes 8 Basic and doesn't work in Notes 8 Standard is a bug. I declare this as a global standard rule :) |
Improve notes.net forums (07 Nov 2007)Just add an feature to add new Idea Spaces. It doesn't need to be directly from the Idea Form, but a seperate IdeaJam configuration area would also work (to prevent too much random Idea spaces to be created by users). |
Separate DominoBlog template from restrictions of Domino release cycle (07 Nov 2007)In general, the Lotus Templates are quite useless too. I've tried a few times to use a Discussion or Library template from Lotus, but they just don't work - either they try to load some Java applet, which doesn't work on any PC I have tried, or they have some hardcoded bitmaps, and are not primarily meant for Web use. On the Notes side they seem to work fine though. For web applications it seems the easiest way is still to hit Ctrl-N in your Notes Client and add some Forms and Views in Designer. But I guess the main source for standard Domino apps is OpenNTF.org then. |
Improve notes.net forums (07 Nov 2007)Yes, notes.net forums area actually an quite underestimated resource. They help in most cases to resolve issues much faster than real SPR tickets to IBM. IBM should really put more resources in improving notes.net. |
C is for Cookies that's needed by U and me! (07 Nov 2007)Yeah, it's quite annoying that Domino login page doesn't remember the username/password. I heard Lotus will finally focus on their core business again in Domino 9 and finally improve it. |
Create a mock framework for Domino Java API (07 Nov 2007)C++ is faster than Java, LotusScript is faster to develop than Java. Java is useless. |
Right-click - Paste Special (07 Nov 2007)Ad-Hoc right click menu is a good idea, I used to teach Excel users how to learn Excel in 1 second: right click everything. Using the Menu bar takes too much time to learn all options, but of course it's also good to have for reference. |
Right-click - Reorder menu from Inbox (07 Nov 2007)Inbox should be removed completely. All Documents shows also your responses. |
Typeahead for Custom Classes (07 Nov 2007)Yeah, this is a good idea. It's just basic text processing and some lookups, I mean it's not like asking Notes to be 3D OpenGL, yet :) |
Display a "user ranking" number beside profile links (07 Nov 2007)Oh nm, I mixed it up with a similar Idea. |
Right-click > Open in Client from Designer w/Notes 8 Standard is broken (07 Nov 2007)I voted "No" because I think Notes 8 Basic is better, and Lotus should focus their development on Domino 8 / Notes 8 Basic, and do Notes 8 Standard development only when the first two are fixed satisfactory. |
Reply-With-History to reference and save only one copy of the email (07 Nov 2007)Notes should only send a "difference" info to the receipients, and remove all duplicate mails which contain the same history as the last "Reply to all with history" mail. That way, no attachments, no body text would be ever sent twice. |
What application good for ideas submision? (07 Nov 2007)#replace "benefits the benefits", "the benefits" Where is the Edit Button? |
What application good for ideas submision? (07 Nov 2007)IdeaJam is the best idea flow application at the moment. If pricing is dynamic to the budget of the hosting company, it's as good as OpenSource. But I think the competition is also hard, and soon there will be also similar OpenSource solutions available (not from me at the moment though :), but then you have to consider also the handicaps/benefits the benefits if it's Crap-DB based, or Domino/DB2 based. |
Display a "user ranking" number beside profile links (07 Nov 2007)Bug Test, all comments deleted? |
Let People with Editor access compact a mail file (07 Nov 2007)The server should have an daily and weekly program document which does compacting of all databases automatically. You wouldn't want users to initiate a compact, and taking a lot of CPU load during work hours. |
Calculate quota without considering whitespace (07 Nov 2007)Domino's compact is quite bugged anyway, I've written a better compact command: xcompact Beta 1, and it's free. However it destroys unread marks, which I think are useless anyway: { Link } |
Ability to Open in New Window (07 Nov 2007)Shift is the standard for opening links in a new windows. Notes should follow the standards. |
Fix HTML mail rendering (07 Nov 2007)I agree, that Notes should have a better HTML rendering. Lotus can just copy paste the source code for proper HTML rendering from Firefox source code :) |
Display "Hit Counter" for Ideas (07 Nov 2007)That's true, it's very convenient if an idea is said clearly in very few words, then there's no need to open it. However, a Total Votes Counter and Neutral Vote Counter could be still shown, since now it shows only Promotes and Demotes counters. |
Cheap Domino Hosting (07 Nov 2007)I've asked Ed Brill how to get an XSP license for my Domino 8 server, but I haven't heard back yet. However, according to the Domino 8 Utility Server Express license, I can host own applications, and can of course also have people use my templates. If you have an application which is based on my templates, I can host it for $15 per year per started GB. If you want additionally an own domain for your site (.com, etc...) it costs $15 per year also. |
Move Lotusphere to Nashville or Lexington (02 Nov 2007)Or then to Lappland, you don't need a hotel - you can just sleep under a tree! |
Free beer for overflow sessions (02 Nov 2007)LOL |
Move Lotusphere to Nashville or Lexington (02 Nov 2007)If anything else than Florida, then Oshkosh, there are some cool experimental aeroplanes :) |
Loginbox is really cool, don't get me wrong (02 Nov 2007)It seems to work now, and my username & password is automatically filled in (Firefox). |
Allow shift click for multi doc select (01 Nov 2007)Oh nm, it's working correctly, I forgot to hold down Ctrl+Shift at the last step. Where's the Edit/Delete button for replies? |
Allow shift click for multi doc select (01 Nov 2007)It's still not working as it should in Notes 8, for example try this: Select doc 1, hold Ctrl hand select doc 3, hold Ctrl and select doc 5, now hold Shift and select doc 10. It should keep doc 1 and 3 in the selection also, but it just kills their selection and selects doc 5 to 10. I need to add this to my "Why Notes Sucks" list also :) |
How about letting us park at the Swan/Dolphin for free? (01 Nov 2007)You can still order a cab, when you have some longer days going on :) |
How about letting us park at the Swan/Dolphin for free? (01 Nov 2007)I've never stayed at Swan/Dolphin, but in some cheaper hotels around the area, and they all had free bus travel to Swan/Dolphin. |
IdeaJam does not support URL links (31 Oct 2007)Ok, that works, thanks for the tip! However, I still think it should also work by simple pasting of text. |
IBM should provied an Open Space for all developers to share thier Sametime Plug-Ins with others (30 Oct 2007)I don't see any benefit that especially IBM should host this kind of service. There are thousands of better service providers out there who have faster response times. IBM has lost the focus on important things like Domino totally, but a new hope is coming with Domino 9. |
Prevent multiple replicas on a single server (30 Oct 2007)As an option this would work. It's nice to have everything totally parametrized. |
Create empty NotesDocumentCollection (30 Oct 2007)Doesn't "If col is Nothing" do the same? |
Disable the default encryption for new databases (30 Oct 2007)Notes 9 will get rid of ID files, then the "lost forever" will be also lost forever. So, Notes 9 will kinda fix this issue. |
Move HTML signature into mailfile (30 Oct 2007)I've posted an mail template mod on notes.net which allows the users to enter also a URL into the sig field in the preferences. The URL will be re-loaded if it's not found in the temp directory of the current workstation. That mod, and also the manual input of HTML code into the sig field should be both saved into the users' mail file instead of harddisk. |
Redirect to result if only one hit (30 Oct 2007)Oh, that's true. But it would be nice for Domino too :) |
Get rid of .ID files (30 Oct 2007)Notes ID's should work like Web ID's, all you need is a Person Document. |
Redirect to result if only one hit (30 Oct 2007)That's good idea, however it should be optional, and default to OFF. The parameter should be configured from the Server Document. |
Petition IdeaJam for a BOF at Lotusphere (29 Oct 2007)I wouldn't be surprised if Rocky would mention IdeaJam in one of his sessions. He's always been a pioneer and enthusiast. |
Swap F5 and F9 Keys (25 Oct 2007) |
Disable the default encryption for new databases (24 Oct 2007) |
After posting a new idea in a idea space, it jumps back to "All Ideas" (20 Oct 2007) |
Eureka! New Flavor of Jam (20 Oct 2007) |
Should the idea jam include products from Lotus ISV's? (20 Oct 2007) |
