IdeaJam has a complete API that can be used by IBM to surface ideas in Connections. There is also an IdeaJam Connections widget available. I will contact IBM to see how we can help.

I would also like to see support for redirections from an .xsp page. Currently you cannot redirect from an xsp. As a work around I have to add redirectTo code in my XPage.

When hovering over the star in the idea views it does have a tooltip for "Mark as Favorite". It doesn't however when reading an idea. I will ask that the Help page gets updated.

David - sorry to hear you don't like the What's Hot feature. The feature not only uses votes to determine "What's Hot" but also considers the number of comments. An IdeaJam Administrator can configure IdeaJam to set weights for Votes and for Comments. Currently for this site they are set to: Votes = 1 and Comments = 8.

Additionally, IdeaJam customers can turn on/off virtually any feature of IdeaJam.

Vlad - a completely new idea linking interface is being developed for IdeaJam V1.8. It will allow linking to ideas no matter what IdeaSpace they are in. I am going to change the status of this idea to "In Progress".

Mike - Like IdeaJam, IQJam also allows roles to be assigned by IQSpace. This is already built in. You will notice on IdeaJam that Joyce Davis and her team from IBM do show their comments in different colors. So far they are they only group from IBM who signed up as IdeaJam IdeaSpace admins.

Maybe something to ask the developers at Lotusphere 2010? :-)

And to think about how many people laughed when I presented them with the idea to extend the mail template. Got your ears on Vince?

For servers I would support this along with the ability to turn the option on/off.

I like this idea. Haven't heard of the request from any of our customers but again, I like it and have a question. Since the views are currently based on votes and not a score (based on aging) how would you suggest people know how and why ideas in the views are sorted? My guess is that we would have to display a score instead of votes.

Michele one thing we want to let you know about is that the Votes by Week chart has this feature already. Click and drag to select a date range on the Votes by Week chart. You will then see a light gray slider at the top of the chart. Slide it to the left or right and you can see weekly voting history for the last 6 months.

Phil thanks for reporting. As for the "And just noticed - even the subject of the email comes in as "New IQJam Comment" this has been fixed. We will look into the other issues reported.

Lotus Domino Designer we encourage people on IdeaJam to use their real names.

Michele - " It is unclear in the current view which one you are actually in" - are you not seeing the active view link colored differently? This is easily fixed within your CSS file. Personally I think the sorting/filtering you suggest may be confusing to a user. Would love to hear more about what you are thinking.

Have any of you seen that IdeaJam has been on the front page of Lotus developerWorks { Link } now for several months:

During Lotusphere 2008 and 2009 in the "Meet the Developers Sessions" Brent Peters did say that they do monitor IdeaJam.

Victor can you please expand on your idea. I don't think it will gain any traction without further clarification.

I remember seeing Mary Beth Raven demo the new Workspace at ILUG 2008. Don't know if we will ever see it. Mary Beth?

@Bruce and @Rob - one thought that Matt and I had is that if you give a list to choose from it may take away from the real reason as to why somebody is demoting an idea. Thoughts?

This is idea has been discussed before and it's something we are thinking about. IdeaJam is highly configurable by the administrator and if we did add this idea to the product we would for certain make it configurable. Let's see what others have to say.

Jon believe it or not the sub-ideaspace sorting is harder than you think. I believe Matt has commented on this somewhere on this site.

Oh and I also use the "My Favorites" view to keep track of various ideas. I also use RSS but I know thats not very typical.

As for other internal Notes views that we have to manage IdeaJam - we do have some but are developing some really cool stuff that you will see hopefully soon.

Roland - your feedback is appreciated. We love when people suggest ideas on how to make IdeaJam a better product. Tell us what you would want to see when you login? Maybe you can draw a mockup and append to this idea.

On another note you can enable email notifications for your ideas and comments in your profile.

I am going to poke around Dell IdeaStorm and Salesforce ideas to see how they accomplish this (if they even do).

Firefox 3 on (OS X) works as expected. I will try PC browsers shortly.

FWIW - Safari displays 3 search results and nothing auto launches.

I think whoever does this really needs to be dedicated to it and ensure it succeeds. It takes a lot of time and effort to run public services, much more than anybody who hasn't done it can imagine. Think, plan, strategize, budget and then execute.

Thank you for the feedback about the Symantec Firewall issues you have experienced. Yours if the first experience we have heard regarding IdeaJam. IdeaJam is deployed in many companies and we have no reports regarding the Symantec firewall nor have we have heard of any regarding the public IdeaJam site.

So let's throw it out there (and I will post a blog entry about this) to see if anybody else is having the same experiences you are.

Some of our IdeaJam and LinkJam customers who have their sites locked down for Anonymous point to a login form in our database. This form is configured in domcfg.nsf and seems to work fine. We simply allow the form to be available for Public Access Read.

@Jack - IdeaJam and LinkJam are built with YUI and MooTools. You should ping Matt White as I am sure he would be happy to talk with you about what we have developed.

I really did enjoy Julian Robichaux and Ed Brill's session "Selling Lotus within your Company" session at Lotusphere 2007. I think something like the session you suggested would be a good one to have.

I saw you give this presentation at ILUG 2008 and I must say you did a smashing job. What was also cool was the pace you gave it at, your candor and your ability to make this topic interesting and insightful. Top notch session. Promoted.

Clearly only the Jump Start sessions are geared towards new developers and having as session for newbies is a good idea. A session like the one you suggest would attract new devs as well as possibly Notes/Domino Admins who want to begin and learn how to develop applications. Good stuff.

Jack - this sounds like a great idea for a BP session and it is a session that I would be interested in attending at LS.

Ulrich I agree and support your idea. Some indication needs to be provided to the user that they are trying to do something that the database manager is not letting them do. Good catch.

Julie this is an interesting post it really doesn't pertain to a particular IBM/Lotus product and it certainly doesn't belong in the IdeaJam IdeaSpace. Let me add a category for this type of idea.

Charles while we have not yet implemented the feature your requested, we have added the ability in the "Unvoted" view to filter what you have yet voted on by "IdeaSpace". Check it out and let us know what you think.

Eric - this feature should make into our Fall '08 release. We have received many requests for this.

Eric - easy to fix. Simply edit the Language Document and change "Save Idea" to whatever you want. :-)

Scott what screen resolution are you running at?

Scott - this is planned for a future release as our customers have asked for this.

@1 any of the text in IdeaJam can easily be changed via the IdeaJam administrator. Same goes for the CSS and both can be easily done from the Notes client.

Vitor - we plan on fixing this behavior in our next release. Changes had to be made to the way votes were displayed (Computed Text 64kb limitation). An anchor will be added to change this behavior. Thank you for letting us know.

Matt we could use the IdeaJam profile when the linkage between the two systems is enabled in LinkJam as we don't have a standalone profiles module (yet).

Vadim there are RSS links within LinkJam. Each view has an associated RSS link. Look for the small orange icon next to the orange text.

Urs thank you for the feedback. How often do you go back and edit the text within bookmarks. Currently "remove" works via ajax but we certainly can work on making editing more ajaxy post V1.0.

While I like this idea I don't think it is something that will make it into LinkJam. First off it is specific to Firefox. Maybe something to think about for a future release. I am voting no opinion.

Diane you have this idea set for the Idea Jam/Other IdeaSpace. Is this what you intended it to be?

Peter have you heard about our Notes/Domino based LinkJam product? You can have Lotus Connections Dogear functionality via a Domino database. File > Application > New > LinkJam and your done. Five minute install. See our blog for info on the beta program that starts on Monday.

You can only edit your links and must be logged in to do this. You will see an (Edit/Delete) option next to each link in the views.

2. Click on the "Your Profile" link in the to menu
3. There you will see your IdeaJam profile, your ideas, your comments and your votes.

I spoke with Bill on the phone and it turns out he was not logged in causing him not to be able to add comments. The showing of Promote/Demote options on ideas marked as completed, withdrawn etc. is still a bug that needs to be addressed.

Ah ha....on those views we don't allow you to Promote/Demote however I think it would be best to hide the Promote/Demote actions.

Back in Notes 4.5/4/6 I remember something called "Portfolios". This allowed you to have one icon on the workspace that opened up a navigator with all of the databases in the portfolio as sections. I really miss that capability.

The What's Hot sidebar does in fact change. It's based on votes and comments made to an idea on a given day. If you click on the word's What's Hot you will see that you can see what was hot yesterday, today, the last 7 days as well as the last 28 days. Check it out and let me know if you still think it's not working as we are here to serve. :-)

Isn't this what Swift File does? Jeff Eisen talked about this at the Meet the Developer session at Lotusphere. Maybe he can chime in here.

One thing I can recommend (for now) is to simply select one more "ideaSpace(s)" that are you interested in and simply focus on those. We will soon be adding a feature to take directly to a default IdeaSpace.

You can then focus on the Recent idea view for each of the IdeaSpace's you prefer and vote and/or comment on ideas that appear there.

You may want to withdraw this idea for now as it does look like this feature is coming in 8.5.

Maureen makes an excellent point. Please remember that ideas can be withdrawn at any time based on feedback from others including IBM'ers. We are beginning to work with IBM to review ideas that are now part of Notes/Domino 8 and will be updating the status of them.

@Ben, in regards to your comment about "Completed ideas" were you not at the "Meet The Developers" session? :-) We are working with IBM Lotus on integrating IdeaJam with their internal systems. Hopefully once we see 8.5 many of the ideas for Domino Designer, the Notes Client, Domino Administrator and the Domino Server can be marked complete. Then again maybe not. At least we have all of our ideas in one place, ranked and commented on. :-)

When I click on your profile I do see all of your ideas, comments, votes. Let's see if anybody else is experiencing this.

You may want to Withdraw your idea and vote on the existing one.

This is in Version 8.0.

Your email address is essentially your Idea Jam username. We haven't yet written any code to do this but will do so in the future. We are now finishing up the Forgot my Password code.

When a user change their email address we will have to change all votes, comment and idea records to reflect the new username. It's not hard - just something on our todo list. If somebody needs their email address changed please drop Matt White or myself and email.

Mary Beth has replied and given her thumbs up to create the separate space. The space will be added shortly.

Paul I just fired off an email to Mary Beth to see how she would like to see this setup.

Sjef you raise good points. Maybe we can add some functionality that shows a list of similar ideas as you suggest.

Don - regarding "Also, are the promote/demote links bold before I login and normal after I login? I see they are bold on an individual idea but normal in the list of ideas." yes the Promote and Demote are bolded on the idea form. Bolding them in the view context makes them a bit unreadable.

We will look on how we can improve the entire user experience going forward. Your feedback is very much appreciated.

Currently you can set the height, width and whether to show your ideas or all ideas. In a future release we hope to give you the ability to make it customizable as you suggest. BTW we do set the background of the iFrame to be transparent as to not mess with your background.

The Unvoted view works a bit differently than the views for each Idea Space. What the Unvoted view was intended to do was to show you all items across the entire Idea Jam for which you have not voted on. Once you voted on an item in the view list the screen would update and show more items that you haven't voted on.

So if we placed an Unvoted view alongside the Recent | Popular | .... would that work for you? I would like to hear what Matt says as to whter or not we can do this with the current implementation. Matt?

@Devin - now you know why I don't call you anymore :-) Others? Feedback please.

Thank you for posting this idea. On this site as well as OpenNTF's we do some wiz bang magic that allows you to login right after registration. Let me say that our technique is highly inefficient however it works for a site like Idea Jam.

We can add some text to the Idea Form when creating/editing a new Idea letting people know how many words will show in the view.

We will be adding some text to the Post Your Idea page that will strongly recommend checking before posting. Then again people are people and will post without searching. All online communities face these issues which I know you already know :-). We are going to work on ways in the future that will do some searching while you are entering your idea and will alert you if the Idea Jam mice think that the idea you are entering has already exists in Idea Jam.

Love the idea. We will hide it if you are logged in. It may take a few builds before it shows up on the public site as we need to see how it looks and make any necessary UI tweaks.

The new build coming out on Sunday changes the behavior of Promote and Demote. I think you will like it. As for the links for promoting and demoting I see these will change over time to a series of graphics. Right now we are still working out functionality before beauty.

Currently we are targeting IE, Firefox and Safari. In my experience with my blog and OpenNTF we see very little Opera traffic if any. Would you be so kind enough to send me a few screenshots of what you are seeing? That would fantastic.

Good news. Ben has told me how to configure CoexEdit to convert pasted in text to plain text. I will configure this tonight. After I test to verify that it works I will mark this idea as being Completed.

More info on Unvoted. The purpose of unvoted is to give you a way to vote on ideas you haven't yet voted on. It will show you one page of ideas and as you promote/demote (and soon offer no opinion as well) new ideas will appear for you to vote on.

This doesn't really belong in the Notes Client "Idea" space. In the future we will have additional Idea Spaces for things like LDD etc. May I suggest Withdrawing this idea and re-activating it once we additional Idea Spaces setup?

This is something we will be changing in the future.

Simply change the Status to "Withdrawn" when in Edit Mode.

Login on Idea will work like this (FYI) starting this weekend. I believe it's in our dev system right now. I have emailed Vince a copy this Idea to nudge him along. That reminds me we need to an "email this" option to these pages. :-)

Yes Notes 8 does offer in-line spell checking in both basic and standard clients. Paul the Idea Jam does allow you to "Withdraw" an idea if you would like.

We have asked IBM for sub categories that they would like to see for Domino Designer. They did provide the sub-cats for Sametime, Domino Admin. and the Notes Client. Hopefully we will get them soon.

In a future release we will be adding a "fading" indication that you voted after the vote is registered. We will change the Tsk, Tsk to something like you suggested. Thanks Alan.

First I would like to say thank you for your participation in Idea Jam. Secondly we haven't added the "No Opinion" logic at the view level yet. I do use the "No Opinion" option a lot and it would be nice to simply and quickly vote on idea (with a No Opinion vote) at the view level.

With respect to your question whether to post ways to improve Idea Jam using Idea Jam - ABSOLUTELY. Use the Idea Jam to build and improve the Idea Jam.

We were tossing and turning with this. We wanted people to be able to explain or show others how to register and if we didn't show the link then people couldn't send others the link to register etc.

I see that your font is bigger than everybody else's. It appears you copied and pasted content from your clipboard which had font tags. We will have to talk to Ben to see how we can prevent this. :-)
