Don't forget it is possible to have more than one archive.
Especially in environments where users are allowed to modify their own archiving settings (like local archiving).

I'd rather have them spend time & energy on fixing (and finishing) functionality that's currently borked instead of adding more features that are either unstable or just not completely finished. (ID Vault & CA process in combination with a key roll-over on a certifier inside CA springs to mind)

In the scenario where the client's configured with a local replica and a user has been away for more than 3 months (sabatical/sick leave) and they launch their client again old stuff will replicate back into their mailfile.

Another example I encountered last year at customer was where users would create local 'archives' by creating creating local replicas which in itself was not a problem until the clients were reconfigured for local but connected mode with scheduled replicatioin where some of these old replicas started to replicate stuff back to the server.

Which version did you run into this one?

There's a current 'feature' in 8.0.2 where archiving also archives contacts

profile documens should be excluded from archiving that's why they contain fields like $NoPurge and ProtectFromArchive, it seems that current archiving code ignores these fields.

If they do add it I'd like an easy way to toggle that behaviour.

there was a nice feature in the R7 to R8 upgrade (I don't know if it's fixed in 8.5) where users that had used the OOO in R7 but had it disabled would receive OoO messages of their OoO agent after the conversion to the R8 design as if they had it enabled.

I did notice something else though: for example when clicking on the link for the IsOnServer Property in the description for the NotesSession class I got the following popup that said:

You cannot add a directory to your workspace.


After clicking OK the document for the IsOnServer property opened without any other issues.

Unfortunately there appear to be some issues with this feature in 7.0.3 and 8.0.2 versions of the client.

The NotesDateTime New method sucks if you're not based in the US.

Over in Europe a more common way of formatting dates is dd-mm-yyyy.
Unfortunately, the new method has a tendency to interpret dates as mm-dd-yyyy for any dates where the day number is <13

some basic stuff I noticed when I looked at it shows that for each replicator page entry there is a structure which consists of a section with a fixed length (72 bytes) and a section of variable length.

The third byte of the fixed sections shows how long the variable length section is.
This section contains things like database title, filepath and replica id.

There's always the <Alt>-# shortcut where # is the number of the action bar button (and then using the cursor keys to find the sub-action (if applicable)).

But yes, keyboard shortcuts are often overlooked in a lot of programs. Anyone try Office 2007 lately? If you still remember the shortcuts from 2003, you're good to go, but other than that you're stuck with browsing through toolbars, using the mouse. Sure it looks nice, but I'd rather 'upgrade' back to 2003 from my personal usability perspective :-p

Personally I would be annoyed if a message being read by someone else would show up as being read when I haven't read the message. I would consider this a bug, but I've heard this question from a number of secretaries/PA's during an Outlook to Notes migration.

Unfortunately a lot of people work that way in Outlook shops - the lack of being able to just save messages that belong to a project together with all their other project files is a common complaint that you'll be hearing when involved in Outlook to Notes migrations.
The file export method just doesn't quite cut it, what they want is full fidelity of the message, not some ascii text export without the formatting.

Users couldn't care less if it's not save/sox compliant. It's what they want, it's what they're used to.

Personally I don't care too much for push mail but being able to sync my mail/contacts/calendar with my iPhone I definately would like to see soon - after fixing the Standard client ;-)

select the user and in the tools-person drop down, select 'Move to another server...'
The administration server will take care of creating a new replica on the new home server, pushing the change to the home server field in the location document of the client, set the new server as administration server etc.

When working on code that is to run in an earlier version I use the designer help for this older version instead of the version of the client I'm currently in. That way I'll be less likely to use functionality that is not available in the target version.

why would notes have to support yet another social whatever site? that's putting things backwards in my perspective. How about Linked-in or ... or ... etc.
Needless to say this one's not getting my vote, but hey if someone out there's bored, more power to him/her.

I've been using a cliptray for code templates for years now (I think it shipped with w2k's resource kit).
Saves me the time of typing out the basic framework for a function/sub (things like error handling etc.).

I for one would welcome a feature to hold stuff like that (especially if you can share the repository with the rest of the developers in a team, so everybody can at least start off from the same base)

How about the fact that you need to have OUTLOOK installed (no need to configure it, it just needs to be installed) if you want to be able to use the 'Send to mail recipient' functionality in the other Microsoft Office products

True. They make some excellent tools but I find their pricing a bit steep
