Remove IMAP Support From The Notes Client (19 Feb 2009)

Matt - here is the problem. They are never going to take the time to make this work the way you want: multiple accounts, one mailbox, without changing locations. too many corp customers would just turn this off via policy and it is not worth the dev and testing for the return. So until that changes and they make it work properly, it is better to turn it off so the experience a user sees today is not like this.

Send funtion Should not Point to Recent Contacts (31 May 2008)

no, i want it to use recent contacts, just not show any recent contact without an email address

Improve Document Version Control (02 May 2008)

Eric - who at IBM said that? you don't have to post it here, but I would love to know. We are fighting the battle of ILDDM vs Quickr and I would love to pass this along

Better visibility of selected bookmarks/design elements (01 May 2008)

seeing as how the database navigation UI is completely different in DDE, not going to promote. there are screenshots of the new DDE and how the db navigation handles the elements. very different

Support iPhone (25 Apr 2008)

convince Apple of this .. they hold the control. Lotus is talking with Apple about this, but Apple has to WANT to do it. Send them email.

In case of client crash - zap the need to use zappers! (22 Apr 2008)

801 seems to do this, as long as you let it finish like Nathan says. You can't cancel the NSD / eclipse bug thingy. Let is happen and it will close the processes.

Of course, the need for it means there is a bug. So can we have an idea entitled "no bugs in Notes please" ... LOL

Provide a 'skin' for Symphony that mimics the Office 2003 menu structure (19 Apr 2008)

IBM is a much larger target than Novell. I just do not think this will ever get past the IBM lawyers :(

Attachments placed in their own pane and not at the bottom of emails (26 Mar 2008)

I do not want the attachments in their own pane ... I want them as part of the header pane. Make it configurable so I can use that in my own forms as well.

The big issue is that when I get email from a Notes user, they probably have attachments in place ... I do it all the time. So it needs to be smart enough to show them there as well. So this should be configurable.

But I vote yes because attachment handling needs work ... period.

add the option to view open office documents with the bild in lotus notes viewer (21 Mar 2008)

What version of Notes are you using? I thought that the View button, in 801, would open any ooo/odf document in Symphony.

The issue with the viewers is they are licensed technology. If the the technology doesnt have odf viewers, Notes won't. I think the chance of having Symphony do more light-weight viewing is a better option

Allow Subform ABOVE the Actionbar (15 Mar 2008)

I like the idea, but it has major challenges on how Expeditor wraps the Notes client. But asking for any features in 7 ... sorry, until you remove that no vote from me. IBM only adds functionality to current software. Today, that is the 8.0.X timeframe.

Replace letterhead logo with Directory photo (03 Mar 2008)

@4 Charles, there are big companies that use the letterhead ... so you can keep dreaming for it's death while it outlives you and me.

The right option here would be to have an option where you could have your profile from Connections & Sametime appear there. That way, it wouldn't impact quote and all that. The profile should display on hover in a view and on demand when you open an email

Add color to the lotusscript debugger screen (21 Feb 2008)

I think the rule should be that if you want to make suggestions to the Designer tool going forward, you have to download eclipse and play with the editor, debugger, and set model. We are getting most of that by default. That way the ideas are to what we need on top of what is in eclipse.org, not functionality already in place.

Eliminate modal dialog boxes! (21 Feb 2008)

Ove - The Notes 8 preferences panel is just an Eclipse plug-in point. Just like you can extend the Notes 8 Sidebar and Menu and toolbar, you can extend the preferences. There are loads of tutorials on how to do that. Just google for it.

Now, tieing those to your Notes application will be a bit harder ... I have not seen anyone do that yet. But it is very doable.

Eliminate modal dialog boxes! (20 Feb 2008)

I promoted this because I want the InfoBox to become a sidepanel. Just like what Symphony does .. and not part of the Sidebar. The Symphony team actually got that idea from a working model MBR and her team did at the Notes 8 SDR back in Westford in 2005. Time for Notes to do the same.

As for preferences, I am pretty sure you are out of luck there. One of the things that using Eclipse.org and Lotus Expeditor comes with is that you have to use the core features, including the preferences, toolbar, status bar, and more. Plus, I like having all of the preferences in a single location. Having them inside each database was a PITA

Sync external iCal calendars in Notes (17 Feb 2008)

Not 8.0.1. This is a proposed feature for 8.5

Presence and IM from Profiles (13 Feb 2008)

Just like IBM added Sametime Support to Outlook and Office, it is Microsoft and partners jobs to do the ICS support in Lotus applications

Admin Client for Linux (09 Feb 2008)

I agree with Rob. I believe Designer will hit Linux and Mac after the 8.5 release (not going to say 9 but sometime after 8.5) and it will be a testing and support issue more than a technical one.

My gut on the Admin client is they will put more effort into making web admin have all of the Admin functionality and work on all three platforms. That is if I was a betting man ;)

A version of Connections that runs with Domino (like Quickr-Domino) (31 Jan 2008)

Craig ... this is a done deal. Foundations and BlueHouse are the SMB direction. Parts will have Domino, parts will not. This is just wishful thinking

Keep the C++ API alive (31 Jan 2008)

There are so many other APIs that I want IBM to focus on (Calendar, Mail, Java UI, Symphony, etc) that the C++ api really can hit the back burner for me.

Better Beer (30 Jan 2008)

They do not have much options. The hotels have standard packages for beer and wine for big events. You want them to go up a level, and we pay the difference in the ticket price? Works just like a wedding :-)

Focus the OGS more on LOTUS NOTES (30 Jan 2008)

Folks ... are we being serious here? First of all, the OGS is more for press and executives than the die-hards. It is the one time a year that IBM has a huge grouping of Press and Execs listening to every word.

Second, get over the Websphere Portal crap. WP is part of the Lotus Brand. So is Connections and Foundations and Bluehouse, all which includes non-Domino stuff.

The right thing to do here is to have two OGS. One for the press and execs, and one for the Notes devs/admins. But Lotus needs the press and all the drum beating for the cost of Lotusphere. That will never change.

Domino / Quickr / Sametime on one server (for SMBs) (30 Jan 2008)

You can do so now ... it will suck performance wise, but it does work. Not sure if it is supported

A version of Connections that runs with Domino (like Quickr-Domino) (30 Jan 2008)

Not everything has to be running on Domino. They need to make the install more Domino like, not rebuild it on top of Domino. This one is never happening .. better to push for a better product that works better for SMB customers than wish for something that will never come to be.

Check availability before sending invitations (20 Dec 2007)

how are you going to do this for people outside your domain? More than half of the people I invite to meetings do not have mail on my Domino server

Provide integration with Twitter in Sametime / Notes8 plug-in (20 Dec 2007)

I think most companies would block this ... so a plugin on the catalog that can be locked down by administrators is the only way I would support this

Make a STOP button (20 Dec 2007)

only if this is tied to a preference or ini parameter and is default off. Last thing we need is people clicking that just because it is there

Use rules (afterwards) for already existing mails (16 Dec 2007)

I think we are better off with detailed documentation on how rules work and are structured ... and a sample on how to trigger them. Now that would be best

We need a Plaxo connector (16 Dec 2007)

you have it backwards ... Plaxo has to support Notes. And they know all about Notes ... just have decided not to support it.

Keyboard Shortcuts (03 Dec 2007)

I understand the frustration, but the whole point of Notes 8 was to stream-line the client and bring some standards to it. That included getting rid of hidden keystrokes and keystrokes that did not make sense. The change from Database to Application was a good one ... and changing a keystroke was worth it

Support Ubuntu (Debian) Linux distro for Server (29 Nov 2007)

I ask again, what are you willing to lose for official support of Debian? Enterprise customers want Linux versions with support. So RHEL and SUSE won't go away. What do we give up?

lotusscript classes to access Productivity Tools basic (28 Nov 2007)

Duplicate .. please vote for the primary idea so all our weight is on one place

Designer for Linux (28 Nov 2007)

Once we get DDoE (Domino Designer on Eclipse.org), this is at least possible. The problem is cost ... cost for testing. and then, when they pick 2 platforms to support, we get people that want other platforms (look at Notes 8 and Unbuntu ...). So what are we willing to give up for Designer on Linux? What cost is it worth to you. Would you give up Administrator on Eclipse? Javascript Frameworks Support? etc. So no vote either way for me.

In Admin Client, Files tab, ability to Right-Click to open in Designer (27 Nov 2007)

Add to Open Menu sure ... while the Workspace is there, until IBM has the time to completely gut it and rebuilt it from the ground up, they will only provide cosmetic changes to it.

I wish Domino had an ActiveSync-like function that supported more than Windows Mobile (27 Nov 2007)

ActiveSync is a Microsoft Property Standard ... this doesn't help

An improved forms based GUI for Notes.Ini variables (27 Nov 2007)

With all of the things that I would want from future versions, this is the lowest of low on my wish list

Symphony Interface to MS-Office Class Library (27 Nov 2007)

This would require IBM to license VBA from Microsoft .. and the reason we have LotusScript is specifically because this licensing was not done (there are rumors of Microsoft not letting Lotus do this, but whatever).

Separate DominoBlog template from restrictions of Domino release cycle (25 Nov 2007)

Your asking IBM to change it's testing proceedure .. and that will not happen.

I wish Symphony could read Office 2007 files (24 Nov 2007)

This will happen, but not until the OpenXML file format ratifacation is completed. Why build file compatability twice? MS will have to change the default formats in Office 2007 and the free filters.

How about letting us park at the Swan/Dolphin for free? (24 Nov 2007)

There is not enough room for everyone to park at the hotels. If you are not staying there, you won't be parking there. period.

Sametime enable IdeaJam (20 Nov 2007)

The big issue here is the cost ... sametime would require some kind of license.

Make Swiftfile available on non-Windows Clients (20 Nov 2007)

I have asked this directly of the developers and told they can not do this for licensing reasons. No matter how we vote on this, it won't change

Support Designer on Mac OS X (16 Nov 2007)

@4 Perry - Eclipse is the future, no matter what we think. Better to support that direction (and help IBM focus on making it better) than fighting it.

Support for Domino for MacOSX Server (16 Nov 2007)

I agree with Rich .. show the numbers on this one. Otherwise it will never even get considered

Usability issue with desktop icons (16 Nov 2007)

I prefer it as it is ... I never use the icons on the desk top and am ok with the links in the client

Stop making me close the property boxes! (16 Nov 2007)

sorry, but I do not agree. The whole point of Symphony over OOO is that IBM spent lots of time on UI and accessability. The Property box is one of the major additions.
