Idea:

A tool for note-by-note comparison of nsf files. I envision it as a dual-paned NotesPeek, with filtering options like:

- Show notes with unids not found in other database

- Show notes with same unid but different oid

- Show notes with same unid but value(s) in field(s) don't match

This would be invaluable (IMHO) for analyzing those pesky situations where two replicas of the same database just don't seem to match up. Could also be valuable for audit purposes ('show me all the changes in this db since the backup taken on day X).

And of course, the final logical step would be drag-drop between the two panes to manually restore missing/deleted notes, bring different copies of the same note into synch, etc.

Comment: Thinking about this some more, although I mentioned NotesPeek and that would be a cool UI, a DXL-based tool would probably be simpler to build. The poor-man's version of this would just be to dump the DXL from two NSFs, eliminate everything that is specific to a replica (e.g., noteids, etc) and then bring up the two files in a decent file diff program.

Idea:

Let's face it... there's aren't enough AC power outlets in session rooms, and there never will be. If you're carrying your laptop with you in your yellow backpack, and if you're carrying the power brick, too, then the weight of a cheap little 6 outlet power strip isn't a lot to add. So, bring a power strip! That way, when you plug into one of the few precious power outlets in the session rooms, you can "Release the Power" to others, too!

Comment: We are working on a tool to do this. The technique to use will be implemented with the NotesNoteCollection class.

The tool will support levels of comparison, e.g. everything, document values, documents existance, design elements, etc.

Idea:

Let us navigate the folder hierarchy when selecting a template. Let us browse outside the data directory. At a very minimum, even without a hiearcichal view, let us display titles, template names, filenames and dates, and sort on any of them! Let us filter by type (NTF, master template, and even NSF -- why not let us replace design of one NSF from another, even without the master template attribute being checked?). Let us search!!

And ok.... It's fine by me if they make this an "advanced" view in order to not confuse people who really love the flat double list (alphabetical list of NTFs that aren't master templates, followed by the alphabetical list of master templates).

Comment: I think the whole mechanism of doing replace/refresh design and by extension identifying where "templates" are (even on different servers or Local) and what they're called and whether they are duplicates and whether they contain any design element level template inheritance needs a fresh rethink. This headache is just one small piece.

Idea:

The more people who participate in a jam, the more fun. One easy way to get more people on stage is to have a supply of hand percussion instruments: maracas, tambourine, mini cymbals, castanets, guiro (my personal favorite), and of course, cowbells. Plus, many of these instruments really do require a great deal of skill to play well, so it's not just a way to get a bunch of non-musicians on stage -- it's a way to give some more people the chance to really show what they can do.
