Idea:

When you register users, have an option to create an archive DB linked to the mailfile.

I'm in the middle of a migration of 500 users from Exchange. I can register the users via a text file but not create an archive DB for each one of them. This archive will in this case be used as target for their migrated Outlook data. Even with scripting this is difficult because you need to handle the archive profile etc...

I have tested an IBM idea : send a mail to all of those users, create an archiving policy to archive documents not modified in 1 day, launch a compact -a the next day .... very long and it doesn't work ! You have to open the mailfile and open the archive settings before it applies. Unacceptable, no?

Comment: If the policy doesn't work you need to open a PMR with IBM....
Or whip up a few lines of LotusScript.

Idea:

Never got frustrated when creating an info@acme.com mail-in, people send mails with their own ID thus receiving replies in their own mailboxes and not in the info@ and therefore have information littered around ?

Not looking for a template replying automatically something like 'Your request is being processed...'?

Even other functionnalities?

On OpenNTF there is a great template doing all of this. Yoeven have a template that gives an admin console of your mail-in DB's :

If could maybe be improved but it would be great to have such a template as a default for mail-ins.

Comment: Unfortunately we have a PMR open for this, they suggested the policy alternative... No other solution up till now. I'll try to keep you posted.

Comment: Policy worked great for my exchange migration. We put all the exchange data in the local replica and setup scheduled local archiving via a policy.

did you create the archives after your data migration and users entering the DB's?
What I have here is that users don't access their database yet but I need the archive before that. Then the policy doesn't work...

Comment: agreed - we make great use of the openNTF Team mailbox. It doesn't have archive capabilities though which is a shame, but it is far superior to the standard mail.ntf for shared mailboxes

Comment: Furthermore, there should be a much better system to know which mails are being handled by someone else. Like having a read mail being read for everybody and not per ID file. The whole follow-up thing needs to be better than what it is right now. Actions on a mail should be better shared for the whole team managing the mailbox.

I'm currently working on an Exchange to Notes migration and I must admit as a die-hard Domino admin, lots of practical things are better settled for end users (I already knew this, but I'm experiencing it now ... very unfortunately ;-)

Following on this project I will probably post a bunch of new ideas. Things can be improved and even made better than in MS Outlook (lots already are) !!

Comment: I did something similar a few years ago. In a migration from Notes 4.6 to Notes 6.5, i did a script to create an archive db for every users (5000). The archive db was created on the Domino mail server. No user's intervention needed

Everything was set:
ACL,Profile, DB options, Cluster replicas.

If your archive need to be local, i think that my code could be use too.

Comment: While I agree generally I understand issue #1. When the mail-in document is set as owner of the database replies go back to that same database and not to the users'.

When receiving an e-mail with in-line image, you cannot save this image except from going into Edit mode, right-click, copy, go to your favourite image editor, paste and save....

Even performing a screenshot of your e-mail is faster!

Comment: I did a 50 user Notes 7 installation (migration from msexchange) 2 years ago for a newspaper. This was their number one gripe in the Advertising department. People send email into the paper for Ads, Announcements, Obituaries, and Sports news, and include graphics, this would have been huge.

Notes Client / Mail: Allow newly created (local) mail rules to be applied on existing mail (retroactively).

Example :

You get a lot of mail from a particular customer for instance for a specific projet.

You decide to create a folder and a mail rule to deliver mails from your customer's domain into this folder.

Wanted :

It should be possible to apply this new rule on mails existing before creation of the rule and thus gather all the mails from this customer into your newly created folder.

Idea:

When you reply to a mail and actually send it, the orginal mail you are replying to remains open and you have to close it manually.

If you are replying to the mail however it means you have already read the original one... so why not close it automatically?

Idea:

The reply button of a view is cut into 2 parts : the reply itself and a drop-down menu for the reply options.

In the memo itself, the button does not have the two parts. You always have to choose an option from the drop-down menu. You cannot reply by simply clicking once on the button.

Why not have the same button in the memo as in the view? It would avoid a lots of clicks...
