Notes Client / Mail: Make Swiftfile available on non-Windows Clients

Author: Bill Malchisky
Tags: swiftfile notes_client notes
Idea:

The Linux and Mac Notes clients lack this powerful tool. With all clients being built on Eclipse, there should be better feature synchronization across platforms. But, it is only available on the Windows client. Sadly, IBM doesn't promote it much either and should--as it really helps people stay current with the new Inbox Maintenance feature.

I am more concerned about consistency and ensuring that good capabilities exist on all clients (excepting OLE, which is really a Windows only deal), rather than constantly footnoting my training that, "well, this is a good feature but it's not available on the Mac," or "you can have presence awareness through DWA8, but not through through a browser on Linux."

Notes Client / To do: Re-assign To Dos

Author: Bill Malchisky
Tags: todo notes notes_client
Idea:

There is no ability in the Notes To Do lists to re-assign a personal To Do item to someone else, or make a Group To Do a personal To Do--this value is set-in-stone upon saving initially the idea.

So, if another person joins the Team and he/she will take on some of your responsibilities you can not delegate some of your personal To Do items. Or, if you are going away, say for maternity leave or out sick for a while, you as the chair person are unable to re-assign the group To Do to yourself. Yes, you can add users to an already existing Group To Do, but you can't add yourself to that task's participant list. The participant can delegate, but not the

This also comes into play if a person leaves a Team and they have several personal To Dos...would be good to be able to re-assign them to the new guy/gal taking over the departed Team member's items, to save a lot of time.

Bulk changes for "All Selected" would be nice too. The Copy Into New -> To Do and resetting tens of entries is quite arduous and counter-productive.

-=-=-=-=-=-

Similiar slightly to Calendaring Administration---which is not in the Linked Idea drop-down, perhaps b/c it's linked already---but at the end-user level.

Author: Bill Malchisky
Comment: Agreed Steven. My preference would be for either a settings document field or a Notes Mail preference to enable it, over their extra EXE installation. Also, an option through Smartupgrade to include the installation would also be a time-saver, if not already built-in.

Ironically, the design code for Swiftfile is already hidden inside the mail template. The installation adds a couple of DLLs and flips the bit to enable the Swiftfile tab under mail preferences. Why they force admins to re-touch the desktop after a successful Notes setup for a very simple installation program makes little sense at this point.

IBM Lotus should re-think this installation and distribution process for this valuable add-on, imho.
But know that everything in life changes with time--even licensing agreements. IMHO, that is not a show-stopper, just a barrier to success, which can passed. :)
Lotusphere / Product Showcase: Cross-index the Product Showcase Catalog

Author: Bill Malchisky
Tags: lotusphere vendor lotus
Idea:

This is a simple and effective enhancement. There exists no printed cross-index for the Showcase vendors by product name, or product type. Many people know the products, but are less familiar with the ISV. Would like a listing of product classifications by vendor (e.g. Fax, CRM, Project Managment) to better find vendors for what you need this year.

Sure many of use would like to have an extended discussion with each vendor to learn what they have, while schmoozing the better schwag, free licenses and party invites as appropriate. But there is just not enough time. So you show-up with a list of needs or curiosity and work to find what you need. In the end, you can miss a lot.

This lack of ability hurts lesser-known vendors who have a product name that is different than their company name and also exhibitors that are in less trafficked areas. Thus, people see the company name and walk past. Listing the ISV as having a "CRM" tool in the index would put them on equal footing in the showcase for people who need to find that type of product, as an example.

How does IBM Lotus get this data? Simple...on the application form, put in a field listing what classification(s) their product(s) include and their top three product offerings this year for inclusion on the product listing page (both optional, of course).

Notes Client / Core/Frameworks (Incl. sidebar, rich text editor): Day-At-A-Glance Activity Item Strike-through

The side bar in the ND8 client has a nifty Day-At-A-Glance feature. Problem is that when you have multiple appointments/reminders/ToDo items, as you accomplish things and the day progresses, it looks like you still have a full plate.

Create the option to strike-through entries in the panel applet, so that you can maintain productivity and see progress, rather than opening each item (to see its status) or otherwise maintaining a separate list.

Notes Client / Mail: Select multiple Folders from Send & File Dialog box

Author: Bill Malchisky
Tags: select multiple two folders
Idea:

We know Notes has the Add and Move options for moving a message to a folder. Used together, it allows a message to appear in mulitple folders. Sometimes when sending a new message, it is a time-saver to place it in multiple folders, rather than select one folder, then go to Sent and Add the message to additional folders.

So, allow the Send & File dialog box to select multiple folders.
