Idea:

Can't believe this hasn't been proposed yet as it's an old idea.

Just want to be able to specify server (as in current server), database and view, rather than replica id. Replicas don't work for development.

This only applies, since Nathan Freeman's sesame street example, to single category embedded views, but I'm not sure I've ever embedded a view that wasn't to be single category.

Comment: This would be great. It is definitely an oversight that you can't programatically specify which view should be used for an embedded view. This mainly applies when you are refreshing designs from a template. Currently you have to relink the embedded views in the live database (when the embedded view is from a separate database) everytime you refresh the design. We have resorted to writing an agent that exports Forms as DXL, parses the DXL, and updates the replica id of the embedded view to look at the correct database. It works but can be painful.

Idea:

Can we have a generic name for the Administration Requests that doesn't involve the word Admin at all. I'd suggest something like 'Server Requests'.

We, as I'm sure other companies do, have an admin team that people want to email frequently. We're constantly getting requests to remove these 'other' admin names from the directory because people get confused when they see the list of choices.

Comment: Although something like "Domino Administration Requests" makes sense, it would be difficult to change without breaking backward compatibility. Other options include:

1) Train your users to email your help desk, not your admin group
2) Rename your group so it doesn't start with "admin" (something like Domino Administrators, Notes Administrators, Acme Email Administrators, etc.)

Tom, I'm not talking about IT administrators, rather an admin team with PAs and the like.

I'm not sure that backward compatability would be a problem, surely once you've upgraded to a new version of the server then the new name would take effect, although I guess mixed environments might have a problem.

(we even have an action in the mail template for emailing the admin team so they don't have to use the email address, but people just don't get it).

Comment: another option is to use the document properties of the Admin Requests entry in the directory and allow only your administrative groups and servers to read the document. It will not then be visible to general users

Is it possible to have a deselect all shortcut?

Would be useful to be able to select a load of documents in a view, perform some sort of action/agent on them, then just remove the selection checkmark to maybe select some others, or for any reason.

Comment: Man, I totally agree on this one. This lack of control has caused me some pain. The best workaround I've found so far is to insert the embedded view via a computed subform. Then, I have multiple subforms in my template that include the replica id in the subform name. That way I can insert the appropriate subform based on which environment I'm running in (template, test, prod, etc.) Of course, this only works in a closed environment; It wouldn't be helpful at all in a shrink wrapped app. Isn't it crazy to have to go through such gyrations when all that is needed is to set the replica id in the design element?

Anyway, I spent quite a bit of time talking to the Lotus developers about this during ND7 betas and, while we all agreed it needed to be changed, it just never made it in. Hopefully soon...

Domino Designer / : Default outline entry in a form

Idea:

I'm adding an embedded outline to a form to allow navigation between tabs of a programmed table in the same form. No frames or views involved. It gives me a nice ui I reckon (better than some anyway).

When the form opens, none of the outline entries are highlighted as selected, even though one of the entries is the row of the table that's being displayed.

Can we just have a 'default outline entry' field on the properties.

Idea:

It's possible to add an image from the image resources to a column in the view, but if we want to provide a thumbnail of an image that's attached to the document, in a Notes client, it's not possible.

It may need another option in the column properties to show value as file or something, and I guess if the file being chosen is not an image or is the wrong size then problems could occur. But then this is up to the developer to make sure they have the appropriate image in the appropriate field.

I'd see this as particularly useful in a staff database, bit like social networking for the Notes client, but there could be all sorts of other reasons for doing this.

Comment: The display behavior of outline should be defined in elements which embed it e.g. page & form.
Outline itself just define the entry data.
I think that's the structure of current design.
