As new staff arrive taking over responsibilities from the old the inevitable question arises...

Can I switch Jane Doe's Meeting invitation's over to Jane Doe 2.0?

I would love to have an option in the mail template (not an agent I write that gets overwritten with each upgrade) which could "transfer" ownership of a meeting from one user to another.

Author: Joerg Michael
Comment: While this is definitely a valid problem, I don't think this should live in the users' mail files. It should definitely something the user needs to do manually before he leaves. Users generally don't know much about Notes as it is. NOBODY would ever know how to do an action they would only use once.

It should also not require the admins to muck around in the user's mail file after he/she leaves.

Probably adminp would be the ideal guy to do this. Of course, it would be tricky to supply adminp with a new name to assign the reservations to. Maybe this could be entered when the user is deleted.
Domino Administrator / Admin Tools: Make another group type "Sametime contact list only"

Author: Elijah Lapson
Tags: sametime notes integration presence sametime settings
Idea:

Make a new group type in the Lotus Domino Server Address book. This group type would be "Sametime contact list only". The purpose would be to have the ability to have groups within the organization that are available in the Sametime contacts list while not available for emailing.

An example of how this would be useful for our organization is our group structure in the Address Book. We have several larger groups which are of type "Access Control List only". When requested we will switch the group type to Multiple purpose so send out larger emails and then switch it back again to avoid the enevitable "Reply to All" crew.

The problem - The problem with this is I can never use these groups in my (wonderful) embedded Sametime client. So I propose an additional Group Type called "Sametime contact list only". I would also request that the critea for including these group in the lookup (that sametime does) include the Multi-purpose for consistancy.

Who is with Me!

Author: Elijah Lapson
Comment: @4 - I agree this should be an administration function. Currently there is the wonderful ability to push out updates to Calendar entries made by the "Chair" of the meeting. Would it be so difficult (maybe it would) to extend this functionality to the name of the Chair as well as the details of the meeting?

I would be happy with only allowing Administrators to run a task which would switch ownership of all Calendar entries which are of type "Meeting" to a new (already created) username.

I get asked this questions constantly and the answer is cancel all the meeting and resend the invitations. Another workaround we use is a "shared" Calendar for groups of staff but that is a story for another day.

@5 Just curious what other Email/Calendaring systems have you supported and how much easier were they to Administer than Lotus Notes?
Domino Designer / : Allow Custom Contols on Xpages from Different Databases

Author: Elijah Lapson
Tags: xpages custom controls
Idea:

Allow the ability to import a custom control on an Xpage from a different database. I am attempting to refactor a Domino based Intranet and I have been using subforms (for the shell header and footer). Subforms can be shared across databases. This currently means I can update the subform and the design changes propogate throughout the website.

The Xpages equivilent is a custom control which currently (as I undrestand it) can not be shared across databases.

For more information please see this thread on notes.net. Please note Erik Brooks' execellent workaround. Hopefully this idea is just a matter of time.

Thanks for listening,

Currently from the Notes client there are the following link options options Edit => Copy As...

Anchor Link

Document Link

View Link

Application Link

Please add

Xpage Link

I want to show off my Xpages to co-workers but there is no easy way to link to them in the Lotus Notes Client. Unless of course you make the XPage the launch option which I do not wish to do always while in development.

Author: Elijah Lapson
Comment: Vlad - I understand you can set up a template which the database with the Custom Control can inherit from. It is more that I would like to update code in one place and have multiple databases using that code. Instead you have to manage which design elements are getting updated in each database.

I would like the functionality to mimic subforms in this way. As a website Administrator it is so much nicer when someone asks for a change to the site to be able to make the change and see it reflected immediately across all the databases. Instead of telling someone they should wait until the design update propagates all the databases.
