When a Notes view is opened in DDE any change made requires a view refresh to complete before DDE continues doing anything else.  With large views this can consume valuable time, especially when the change made is to the font of a column header which should not require a view index to be rebuilt.  THe Classic Designer interface didn't carry this overhead.  Surely we can estalish clear criteria as to what changes to a view would constitute the need to perfrom a view rebuild.

You're not doing this in a live production database (I hope), so presumably you're talking about prototyping views or for temporary use. You should use a small dataset until you're happy with the view design. You can do this by creating a local replica with a replication formula limiting the number of docs.

@Peter, this has bugged me since day one of the Eclipse Designer client. It's crazy and so retrogressive.

@Mark - Hahaha, you don't live in my world.

View behaviour, including rebuilds hasn't changed for many years. Eclipse client is a management layer ontop of Notes. Definitely, living on a different planet Jerry!

Wait, view behavior changed recently to allow Notes to continue in other windows while waiting on a view refresh. Ah, why not Designer?

And yeah when working w more sophistcated views I really have to see how the view enties interlace with one another in production. Plus, on truly large databases, theres not time enough to deploy all views at once. Takes too long. So, deploy a bit, update a bit.

I work on big databases, yes
