Another simple one.

By default, when you open an un-customised Notes 8.5 mailbox, the "Views" section doesn't contain any views. Simply put, it should!

Some examples might be:

By Sender
By Size
By Attachment
By Month
Mail Threads

I recall from the Notes 9 demo that the Views section was empty in the Notes 9 mailbox too!
2) Mathieu Pape7675 (22 Nov 2012)
Indeed, the OpenNTF mail templates were/are a good example of this.
3) Stephen Bailey1809 (22 Nov 2012)
It's understandable why the OpenNTF template is no longer in production. In the Domino 8.5.x codestream, many new mail features were added into the mail template, and mailboxes were upgraded by default when you installed a patch.

Nevertheless, it is so easy for a new user of Lotus to laugh out loud at a mailbox design which includes a Views section, but no views held within it.

I hope others find this strange too and more promote the idea!

What do administrators commonly do? Add their own views in, protect them from the Design task and hope that they'll work in future releases?
4) Mathieu Pape7675 (22 Nov 2012)
Yes, that's what I meant. Lots of (good) features have been taken over from OpenNTF, but not the views which were present there and efficient.

Why you want those views, when You can easily short All Documents/Inbox by clicking on the column header?
But, You are right, the View sections should be hidden if no views are inside.
6) Bill Malchisky9254 (29 Nov 2012)
The views you seek to add exist in the Inbox by selecting the appropriate column. Adding redundant views into the view section would potentially significantly increase mail file sizes when the view indexes are activated.

When a user creates a private view or a shared view, that is where they appear. That should remain as is and allow the design enhancements to handle the workflow in an efficient and elegant manner.

I agree with Bill. If you want by sender, click the Who column header - size, click Size etc
Adding views to a database adds performance overhead and additional index processing, and that means slower responses, particularly in larger Inboxes/databases.

Here's an example of Views population in Notes 8.5.3.
