Hide-whens are bound to paragraph, not to a field. A paragraph that contains a field may contain other things. If the hide-when applies to the paragraph only, then what about the other stuff. Surely there can't be two hide-whens, one for the field and one for the paragraph. What if they evaluate to contradictory hide states? And if it still applies to the whole paragraph, what about the case where there are two fields in the paragraph? Which field gets the honor of having @thisName apply to the paragraph's hide-when?

Got to agree with Richard on this one I'm afraid.

perhaps the syntax checker should raise an error if @thisname/@thisvalue is used in a Hide-When formulae

Maybe this is not the way to implement the desired feature. But I'm sorry: No idea how this could be done considering paragraphs. :-(

By basing your hide-when on the contents of another field you should be able to achieve your goal.

Back in the days I could achieve a hide-when using @ThisValue and it worked in the client, but on the web it wasn't working.. I scratched my head a lot before realizing what Richard clarified...
