For example, a list like this:
Fred Flintstone      Forward
Barnie Rubble       Winger
Wilma Flinstone    Coach
Betty Rubble          Manager
Of course I can set the sort direction of the columns and also show more context about the selected data. With a listbox I can mimic a tabular layout for data.

What would be the value stored in the field then? How should this be rendered into HTML? There are already too many things that work different in the client and on the web.

The value could be specified to be one of the columns. I guess it would be good to be able to have a hidden column which could have a computed value for the row, for example, combination of values in the other columns.

I think this is why we have tools to allow selection from views... true, they need help on the web, but so do a lot of other things (date/time tools anyone?)

@Harkpabst, the notes client uses this feature when you "customize this view...". Why shouldn't we as developers be able to use the same features?
As for items working differently on the web, so what? Why deprive the notes client of a good feature to keep parity with the web?
If anything the notes client should be able to excel beyond browser capability.
