Stop making me close the property boxes!

The Symphony apps all launch with right-docked property boxes open. Don't want them open? Maybe 'cause you're not on a 3000x2600 screen like most IBM people appear to have? Well, close them then. Every. Single. Time. There is no preference. There is no memory of previous choice. There is only the assumption that everyone wants to waste screen real estate with property boxes all the time.

Ok, rant mode off. For now, anyway.

Got a small screen snippet you could post?
2) Ben Langhinrichs6924 (26 Sep 2007)
This is a major annoyance.

Here is the UI for Symphony Documents: { Link } . Rob is saying it always opens this way. I also want to point out that there is no convenient way to close the properties. You have to go through the menu widget and select Close. The sidebar in Notes 8 has a microscopic white arrow you can click; Symphony is missing these.

very user unfriendly

sorry, but I do not agree. The whole point of Symphony over OOO is that IBM spent lots of time on UI and accessability. The Property box is one of the major additions.

I don't understand IBM's obsession with property boxes. They have been annoying ever since they started auto-appearing (in R5, I think). And if you have one open in Designer, then switch to the client, the darn thing is still open! (Although they finally fixed that in R8.)

Sure, they're necessary, and they contain lots of handy options. But please stop throwing them in our faces. We need a "do not auto-display" checkbox.
