How about a database option to store the view indexes not in the current NSF-file but rather in a separate file (same filename only a different extension (*.idx)). In many applications the index sizes take about 50% and more of the whole database size. It would be great for back-ups and archiving if the actual "data" could be separated from the indexes.
  • This functionality should be optional per database for backwards compatibility.
  • The new file would have to be protected by the same ACL and encryption settings as the NSF-file

This is a great idea from the performance point of view.

This would also help if external index files weren't counted against the 64GB database size limit.
