To quickly determine if the sender is in the Address Book, and therefore likely not a Spam sender, a button above the inbox view, or in the Tools button that would allow a quick check against the Address Book.  If Yes, then the odds are good you have a valid sender and not a spam sender.  Even with Spam filters occasionally spam gets through.  My usual options are to check the Address Book and check the Body field to see what text is there before opening.  Now that I said that a button to open the Body field for viewing would help also.

I think this is an interesting concept -- but I do not think anyone should have to press a button to make the determination. It would be possible (I think) for IBM to include some preference to enable an icon if the sender of the message is found in a directory. Don't hold me to this because it may not work -- but you could always try and color code your email based on the sender. If the color coding can accept @domain (your domino domain) you could make all internal senders appear in blue, red, green, whatever.

I Don't think, the button is the best solution from the user experience point of view.
But I Think it is a good, if Notes would have better Spam recognition. And for that, having a sender in the address book should count towards a "ham" rating.

But for the button in the in box to check for some kind of spam rating - I rather demote!
