I guess everyone who installed Domino on Linux yet had to somehow generate init-scripts to run it as daemon. There are some options available to do this:

- using Daniel Nashed's scripts
- grabbing the one linked in some old redbook
- DIY writing

It would be nice if Domino delivered those scripts with the setup and could be run as daemon out of the box as it can as service on Windows.

Completely agree - should use Dan's scripts (which are truly excellent), and shoudl of course be shipped for all Unix variants....

Another vote for Daniel, he's a star!

I use Daniel's scripts. They're quite excellent. Don't have an issue with them not being part of the Domino install. Would be nice, but not required...because you can customize the scripts and enhance them.

You can not do this with Windows, beyond, the basic few GUI settings. So, it is really required for Windows to have Domino enabled as a service during the install; it's a closed source OS. On Linux/UNIX you have more options and capabilities so it makes less sense...but it would save some time.

I have been using Daniels scripts but recently switched to my own scripts (which is based on different domino/unix admins experience)

I keep the domino in a "screen"-session and store the logs i data-directory where they are zipped. Also I do maintenance daily or weekly of system databases using the script and cron.

It would be very nice if IBM could provide this themself so everything become standardized. Also an official Wiki-page create by IBM with linux-help would be nice.

There are some scattered information all over the web on this issue, but it is definitely time for IBM to step up and sort out the situation.

I would like to see a page where there are different scripts to choose from. Help on all distributions that exists. Information about best practices on Linux.
