Currently all mail retrieved via POP goes into the mail file as defined by the Location document.  So if you pull, say, your personal mail from a Yahoo account via POP (defined by an Account document in your address book), then it all gets dumped into your work mailbox.  Currently the only way to do this is to create a different location document that defines a different mail file.  You have to switch back and forth to send mail from each mailbox.

I propose that the Account document have fields added to define a different target mail file for the POP to be delivered, keeping work and personal mail separate.  There should also be a way to send mail FROM that mailbox via a corresponding SMTP document also without having to switch locations.

I demote this idea as I think changing locations is the better aproach. If you enable two "active" maildatabases in one location, regardless which protocol they use to receive mail, there will be issues with sender email-address, S/MIME signature etc

That is a valid arguement for outbound mail. But inbound POP mail would have no problem being directed to a specific mailbox for each account. Also, it is undesirable to have to switch locations constantly to check each POP account, then back to your standard work account. It is important to pull in POP mail in a timely manner for 2 reasons: 1. So it can be seen and acted upon in a timely fashion. 2. So it gets a timestamp close to the correct timestamp the message was delivered. (see my other post on this)

That said, I expect relatively few people actually use the POP feature based on the lack of responses until Notes becomes consumer software as well as business software.
