I often need to be able to print to another driver than the one currently in use (e.g. switch to a PDF printer). I now have to instruct the user to switch the driver manually, and then click my 'print' button.
Not very professional !
This functionality implies reading existing driver info as well as writing, as you need to switch back after changing.
On top of that it should be cross-platform (and that might be harder).

Theo,

I don't recall seeing this in any software tool out there (but of course, this doesn't mean it can't be done here). But I see tons of obstacles: you would have to detect if a printer is available, cross-platform (as you said yourself), what if the name changes etc etc.

If the main purpose is creating pdf's, there should be native support for that in Notes.

@Martin: I used to do it in MS Access !
I'm sure every OS api can give you a list of available printer drivers (just like you can have a list of available fonts).
I gave a PDF driver as an example, but it could also be a switch to a 'color printer', 'label printer', 'departmental printer',...
But I agree, it might be difficult, but worthwhile.

Ok, I see your point. You convinced me in redrawing my vote :-)

You can in R7 include the printer name in the print commnad. But you have to know the printer name. I use this to print to pdf since I know the pdf software name"kd-pdf"
