I would love to see a complete "how to" session on self-registering for the web, as there's no easy to find documentation (though I'm sure it exists somewhere) and the entire process mystifies me.
Things I need to know and would like to see:
1. Setting up an additional address book to handle the registrations
2. Adding a self-register module to a custom application (and how to handle if user forgets password)
3. Adding the login box to a custom application
4. Licensing considerations for a self-registered application

Basically the way that OpenNTF.org and Ideajam.net handles all their registered users. Maybe someone could do a case study?

Jess are you suggesting a whole session for something like this?

Well, it would look rude if I walked out halfway through, so yes, a whole session. ;-)

Seriously though, I'm sure it's possible to fill up an entire hour by setting up an additional address book with Domino, taking a web app and installing a self-register module to it, adding the "login" and "register" dialogs to the web app, and then handling what to do if users forget their password.

Trust me, I'd be in rapt attention the entire hour... Unless you think it will take longer than an hour, this would also make a fantastic jumpstart!

Actually, this might be a good one for someone to do as a BoF...

@Thomas - no projectors in BoF's. Would be hard to demo it.

Point well taken...

I could do this. I've built it about a dozen times and have some fairly generalized code. It sounds pretty specific though for a whole session. I think I'd run out of things to say after 20 minutes or so.

Fair enough... could be paired with other misc. web tricks, such as redirecting users to their own mail file after login, etc. I'm not even sure what to call these particular techniques. Are they considered dev or admin?

It sounds like infrastructure from a web developers perspective. If you take that as a lead, it could include subjects like changing your mail quota and server based archiving period through a web application, redirecting to your or someone else's mailfile from a web application etc. Maybe that could fill up a whole session?

I've done it a couple of times now, opencod.org and more recently harlequin.com. Could be a nice 'how-to' blog entry maybe?
