If/when the eclipse version of the Domino Designer appears, I would think that at that time other platform support would be a possibility.

IIRC, way back in the V3.03c days, they had a UNIX Notes client, that became discontinued in the R4 code stream with the onset of NT for desktops that UNIX once occupied--to better handle things like OLE. During that time there might have been a Notes Designer client, but I am not 100% certain here...someone correct me if need be.

Point being, that if they had it once, @1's statement would make it easier to resurrect it.

I am one of the biggest proponents of Linux, especially Notes/Domino. I think this client product will occur, but is perhaps an ND9 release at the earliest. A good question for Marybeth Raven's blog, me thinks.

Once we get DDoE (Domino Designer on Eclipse.org), this is at least possible. The problem is cost ... cost for testing. and then, when they pick 2 platforms to support, we get people that want other platforms (look at Notes 8 and Unbuntu ...). So what are we willing to give up for Designer on Linux? What cost is it worth to you. Would you give up Administrator on Eclipse? Javascript Frameworks Support? etc. So no vote either way for me.

And Mac (of course)... Expeditor should make this easier, but I still can't see it happening. Still we can but hope...

All the clients (Notes, Designer, Admin) should be available on the same platforms.

@6. I don't think this is a zero sum game. Certainly not in long run. By actively supporting other platforms, IBM give businesses the choice to move off Windows. By investing in the none MS desktop market they can grow it and get a bigger slice of the pie.

By the way, if you want an actual answer, I'd definitely give up a programmability overhaul in symphony for a designer client in Linux. Sorry. For that matter I'd give up .png and .svg support too. ;)

Designer and Administrator clients are mostly used by 'tech' guys, and they mostly like Linux.
They are only a few and not decision makers, but IBM should give them something to have their LIKE.
