Notes 8's new type-ahead feature is great, especially when creating e-mails. There are however a number of situations in which it is more of a hindrence than an asset. Not all Names fields are looking to have their values populated with names, or worse still e-mail addresses, from people I have communicated with in my e-mail system. Workflow applications are often looking to have the name of an internal employee. I would like to see a property added to Name fields in Domino Designer that allows me to disable the Notes 8 type-ahead feature so that the only names looked up are ones that are actually in one of my directories and returns the name of that person and not his/her e-mail address.
At the moment my only option is to disable this feature completely. So I am torn between making my mail template easier to use versus making my other application just as easy to use as they were with Notes 7.
A bonus point could be scored bt IBM if they would also allow me to nominate that a Name field should only be populated from contacts in a Public Directory and not a Personal Address Book. That way I can be even more certain that a name entered is a valid value.

I can turn that off.
It might be because I'm on 8.0.1 beta, but check for yourself in 8.0.0 It's on the field options tab in the properties box, where you also control the display of delimiters.

@1... That works with 8.0.0 but then the typeahead is turned off completely. Typehead is a really cool way of providing feedback to the user that the characters they have entered matches their intended name without having to type (and spell correctly) the entire name or the delays associated with Lookups. I would like to still have the option of making type-ahead available for a field, just not the way it is now done with Notes 8.

@Peter, I agree...
(1) The name-lookup capability (precise marketing term escaping me currently) in e-mails is *not* type-ahead, which still exists--as mentioned to me on a support call and we all needed to level set on the jargon to get the issue resolved;
(2) In some cases the name-lookup feature can create an ambiguous name situation, as Renames don't propagate into this feature. So, the old name still appears in the name-lookup list. If the recipient's old name is alphabetically superior to their new name, then the previous name will always be at the top of the list, until the usage algorithms purges it (know way to establish a time-frame here). Picking the old name, will of course cause an ambiguous name as that name doesn't exist anymore (in theory).
So, I agree to promote your idea and hopefully resolve this at the same time (if they would address our SPR). =)
