There are trial versions for Notes,Domino and SameTime, but none for Quickr and Connections.
As I can understand that these products are quite complicated to install, I don't think that this should be a reason why there should be no trial at all.
In many SMBs it works that way that the administrators are often the initiators for the purchase of new products. However many of them don't suggest anything before they did not have hands on experience with it.
PS: Oh and the "Sametime Gateway" could also have a trial. If someone tests a product, he wants to test all functions.

LOL, Quickr is probably the easiest program to install ever. I just installed it today (Quickr 8.0.0.2). It doesn't ask anything, just a user name for the Admin.
However, Quickr 8.0.0.2 is still very early in development, although it's acceptable stable. If you tolerate to downgrade a Domino 8.0 x32 server to Domino 7.0.2FP2 and all Vista x64 Enterprise and Fedora 8 x64 workstations to Windows XP x32, it works OK.

Agreed, Quickr is very simple to install on Domino. Connections and Sametime Gateway seem less so but then I'm a Domino admin and Websphere scares me!

Have you considered using Lotus Greenhouse? If you go to { Link } you can see Quickr & Connections in action along with other IBM Lotus collaboration products.
