All know that dblookup has a limit of 64KB. If you have a computed for display field which does a dblookup to return more than 32KB of data, it will throw an error. A View Column can display only a max of 32KB of data from a document. A document can store only a max of 64KB summary data.

Now if an application requires a lookup keywords that is more than 64KB of data, these limits will make a developer crazy. There are work arounds. But it will definitely help the developers save time if these limits are raised a little bit (May be to 1MB).

If it was that easy to increase those limits (Think: What drawbacks would you accept to make it happen?), don't you think that IBM would have done it long ago? I don't think they keep us dumb Notes guys restricted like this, just to sell relational databases.

Same goes for view columns being populated from different documents, I'm afraid.

What I would NOT be willing to give up is the incredible backwards compatibility we have now, for instance.

If they can build DB2 views, if they can integrate DB2 so nicely, why can't they increase the field size limit,why can't they let view cols pick vals from different docs!!
If doing these will affect the performance, let the developer decide if to use these features or not.

Well, why that argument doesn't convince me too much (is that DB2 integration really that nice and seamless?), there is one thing that made me change my mind: If you don't ask, you don't get. So it shouldn't be me defending IBM for not working on this, they should give us valid reasons why (if at all) this is difficult/impossible. So, I'm switching to promote.

Your idea is very close to this one { Link }

#1) I think you are right, if it were easy.... wait... surely it IS, but then where is the backward compatibility? IBM/Lotuis needs to take a page from Apple in the OSX and just say, from this version on, we are a new product.
