when I perform a search on a view via he 'Search this view' option my Notes client is frozen for a dozen of secons, depending on the size of the view.
I would rather like to be able to work with other tabs in the mean time.

Oh, yes. I'm from Louisiana, can't I vote more than once?
Perhaps the view can say "searching..." -maybe with a cute graphic? (like it says "this view is being updated... you'll get to use it someday."

What if you are trying to edit/add/delete a document relating to that view in another tab?

@2 The full text index is never absolutely current - there's always a lag between when docs get added/updated and when the FTI gets updated.
The search result would show the results from the FTI, and most likely miss your edits/updates/etc. But that's no different than how it works now between your PC and other users on the server.
