The ability to lock design elements and have version control (view history, rollback) should be added to Domino Desginer.

In addition if a design element is locked out it should not update other databases when used as a template for a design refresh.

I realise this can be done with 3rd party tools, but it should be part of the core product by now...

Great idea.
more like commit, create tag/branch, merge?
It would be easy to implement with full roundtrip capable dxl. Just save the xml of the single design elements in the versioning system. Different versions would be also easily comparable as they are text.

It does not really belong in the IDE but then Designer is a unique kind of environment with it's own unique rules. I keep thinking the way you do when you develop with source files but this is a highly proprietary locked system. As such yes it should provide a complete set of development tools not the basics it does now.

As someone who comes from the OpenSource universe to the ND platform, an SVN-like function in the designer client would be AWESOME!

With Designer moving to the Eclipse platform I would expect to have version control. If not from IBM then from third parties. The abstractions of the Eclipse IDE resource model really help for developing this kind of stuff. I'd like to see SVN and NSF based options from IBM. Git anyone?

With the Domino Designer in Eclipse and the the new Rational Team Concert and the Jazz environement it will be nice to use this with Domino
