Domino is used a lot for web programming. With ajax and all those new libraries like prototype, ext and dojo JavaScript experienced a major boost. Now this language and its implementation as scripting language browsers has its own quirks.
It would be great, if the Domino Designer on Eclipse (8.5) could provide some helping hands for javaScript coding. This is possible: Aptana is a eclipse based IDE for JavaScript (among others). When doing javaScript dev on Domino I actually often code some more complex javaScript bits in Aptana and copy-paste them back to Notes. It would be great if Domino Designer had Aptana-like IDE capabilities embedded.

Axel,

My understanding is that because Domino Designer 8.5 will be based on Eclipse, you will be add your own plugins like Aptana. But of course there will be an improved JS editor included anyway, although I haven't played with it to say how good it is yet.

Matt,

that would be even better. But then there has to exist something that Eclipse knows that it should open the javascript editor, if I edit jsHeader or a javaScript event. Its all guesswork, because I don't know the eclipse based designer.

It's already there.
There has been javascript editor plugin for Eclipse. So Domino designer based on Eclipse can has this feature at the begining.
I have a screen picture of the designer's js editor from a IBMer's blog(foget her name)
While I can't upload it :(, you can view it here:

A while back I wrote a plugin for Aptana using the com.aptana.ide.core.protocols extension point to hook directly into a Domino database via a local Java API connection. It uses the DXL to write to and from the database from the Aptana editors. Its not exactly feature complete, but it is in the public domain now and could easily be extended to work with form JSHeader events etc... or you could just wait for 8.5.
