Very old idea that  I could have used in many occasions: a "Deleters" field: who can delete this document? It would be the solution to have real owner control over Deferred mail (see what's hot at the right :-).
Similar fields: NonReaders (Richard Schwartz), and one could think of more of these special fields.
There must be more than the one link I found on the same idea:

1) Paul Davies13558 (21 Jan 2008)
also - a Delete Database privelidge inthe ACL
2) Kenneth Axi2537 (04 Aug 2011)
Fail to see any good reason for having this. You can do this today by having users placed in a group that is Authors, and then unselect "Delete Documents" property in the ACL for that group. Voilà - they can author, edit their own documents, but not delete.

If You need them to be able to delete, but only some documents; Have them in an author-group that has Delete Documents rights, and have that group present in the Authors field of the document.
