The current system makes it impossible to use totals in views on a browser because the total will include documents that you cannot see because of Reader / Author restrictions

Would also be nice if we could categoris odeas under server and development as an example

Some views now use this behavior, thus they would break, if the behavior would change.

Second, since the totals could differ for all users, they could not be calculated on the server. The index for such views would have to be recalculated every time the view is opened.

Thomas,

Why the demote? Inquiring minds want to know :-)

@Thomas,

For some reason I didn't see your comment.

Ok, so how about a view property allowing you to do it selectively so as not to break existing apps. It is very frustrating that there is no native way to show totals in databases using reader fields - one of Dominos best strengths

I take your point about view indexes but surely ( and very simplistically ) if the system can cope with only showing you selected documents it can cope with totals

When i recently discovered that issue, I initialy though it was a bug... So I'm totaly with you on that point (I still think the way lotus works here is totaly stupid : why on earth my user would see a total superior to the values he has access to ?).
