when debugging scripts with many iterations of a specific task (e.g. importing data, processing all docs in a view, ...) I often have a situation where I want to debug only if a certain condition is met, e.g. in the import data line a field contains the value xyz. It would be helpful to set a breakpoint and add the condition field1="xyz" to the breakpoint and each time the interpreter hits the breakpoint it evaluates the condition and only if its TRUE, the script is stopped and the debugger pops up.
I've additionally found this in the comments of the linked idea and I think its worth a dedicated entry. There are suggestions on how to do this in the code, but the point is NOT to change the code each time you want to do this

Thank you Alois for bringing this up!

this would be better addressed by allowing Watch conditions and then breaking when a condition is True

Hi Paul,

I see this as an additional way. The main difference is the performance degradation, since a generic watch condition has to be reevaluated each time a single instruction has been executed. A breakpoint condition only has to be evaluated at that selected line of code. The purpose is slightly different for me. A watch condition is especially helpful if I want to find out WHERE in the code a specific condition is being constructed for the first time. A breakpoint condition helps me to trace WHAT happens at that point under that condition (regardless how this condition was created).

Anyway, I would appreciate both as an improvement.

It would help me enormously during the development of my applications.
