Allow easy remote access (telnet/ssh) to the server console from Linux

We are currently "tied' to the Domino Administrator client which currently only runs on Windows.  I'd like to be able from a Linux client to telnet/ssh to the Domino server's console and run any commands remotely w/o need any special "client' to connect to it.  Authentication would be done via username/internet password and/or secure console password.

Can you not do this by starting the java controller and then using webadmin.nsf to hit the console with a Firefox browser?

Do you know Daniel Nashed? Look at { Link } for some hints and email him to get a script to start the Domino server in a certain manner, thus you can "log onto the console" by
sudo invoke-rc.d rc_domino monitor
and a lot more.

Sorry, I forgot to mention: This script works when you can use ssh to connect to the server.

I agree with Thomas - Daniels scripts rock... I would be looking for IBM to supply these or similar scripts rather than putting telnet type access into Domino.

isn't there also still the old cconsole? requires an id file if memory serves me right.

You can also use the screen command to re-attach to a session and you will be able to see the Domino console at any time.

Daniel...you can run FF and use the Quick Console (if you lack the Java Controller) and enter commands from there. Works great on a Mac or Linux.

@3, @4 ... his scripts rock...customized it a lot and use it on all my servers. Needs an update for D8 as the console logic changed, or at least how the OS is processing it...will get with him at LS08 for insight.

I strongly agree with Daniel. The Java client is a nice experiment, but not really ready for production. Linux should either have a native C++ Admin Client or a way to use text mode remote shell (servers don't usually need/have graphics cards and UI's).

I agree with Daniel, too.

SSH is an open standard, and IBM/Lotus is committed to this, so there is no need to create a new server (Java Controller) and a Client in Java or use cconsole. They can use the same code from SSH server from AIX, for example.

No need to reinventing the wheel

What's wrong with "screen?" Sure, it doesn't exist on Solaris, but I've used it on Linux for ages. It complicates your startup script a little but it works.
