it would be great to be able to see before I open an email if in a view/folder if a return receipt has been requested.

Side Note: I don't believe you should prevent return receipts from being sent, I just want to see clearly via an icon if a return receipt was requested.

That's always the first change I make to my mail file when I get a new account. That and a button to remove the read receipt flag. I find them incredibly rude and invasive.
2) Theo Heselmans6409 (03 Apr 2008)
I do exactly the same, Matt ;-)
3) Harkpabst Meliantrop3248 (03 Apr 2008)
I DO believe, that you should have at least an option to prevent return receipts form being sent, but in any case I do agree 100% to this one.

The OpenNTF Mail Template has a feature that can be sent to not send RR's. { Link }
5) Mick Moignard2635 (03 Apr 2008)
I'm sorta sure that in the past the mail template did have this functionality: thebomb icon was shown if an inbound item had an RR request.
6) Gregg Eldred5345 (11 Apr 2008)
I'm with Matt and Theo, this is the first change I make to my mail file. Might as well just include it. :-)

^- another person who hacks his mail db immediately after upgrading the design.

Add me to the list :-) I also have a nice agent to remove the prevent from copying :-) These are the 2 things I always change in my mail template.
9) Mark Dowling32 (01 Oct 2008)
there's a separate Idea for the option mentioned by 3) above:

I implemented an agent that performs a simple action, setting the value of the returnreceipt field to 0 for all emails, with the event "before new mail arreives".
It works flawlessly.

Enforcing return receipts on users was probably the most stupid design decision in Lotus Notes (and there's quite some competition here).

As an admin, I frequently need to access my users' mailboxes.
I can't rely on a modified mail template, because we have many of them floating around, and one day or another, I need to open some mailbox that's running the default template.
The only reliable solution I found was running through nnotesws.dll with a hex editor and changing the "ReturnReceipt" string to something else.

Also, a LOT of people using Notes use the preview pane just to work around this utterly stupid behavior.
