Today I started my Notes client and a consistency check on one of the databases on my workspace prohibited me to start using the Notes client directly (it took about 5 minutes to perform the check).
Why can't such a task run on the background or when I want to open the specific database?
In this case it was a database with > 70.000 docs and size 7GB (I know you might wonder why I needed that db on my local machine)...

The server already does this.
Hopefully your server doesn't have to consistency check log.nsf though. :)

Or names.nsf or any of the myriad other little things that have to be perfect for it to start. ;-)
But yes, that should go in the background on the client and it should show some kind of "Please wait - doing stuff" sign, like when updating views.

most my mid level managers are mobile, and they stored at least 5 GB of mail database in their notebook (replicated).
when their windows crashed, it take more than 30 minutes for consistency check, until then there is nothing they can do except for wait.
another way to make this faster should be better.

or at least we can have a progress bar about the process, when it will be finished etc, rather than a small message in a status bar, where users usually never notice about it.

There should at least be a decent screen telling the user that a consistency check is progress and therefore the database can not be used.
Also it should mention WHY the consistency check is taking place. Our users keep killing Notes and end up with consistency checks.
All other Notes databases should be accessible normally, while one database is being checked.
