I'd like to have a function which would allow me to "clean" my workspace from invalid chicklets and bookmarks.

It should do the following:

  • test for each local chicklet if the appropriate database really exists
  • test all chicklets for a specified server, if the appropriate database exists on this server
  • allow me to remove all chicklets for a specific server at once (for example a server which is no more available)

I should get a result of the action, which would allow me to perform a "Remove All"-action on the found invalid chicklets.

There should be "Do you really want to remove the chicklet" messages, if its not accessible due to network probleems

I like the premise, but many DBs may not be available at any one time if you manage multiple domains. I have entire workspace pages/tabs that only work when at the client's site, I would like to remove icons from that tab when I am there, if they don't work. But a blanket agent that purges anything it is unable to find would cause major inconvenience.

For people who only exist in one company, it could be more useful.

I like it, but only if the new option includes both Axel's and Bill's suggestions.

oh a very great idea... I often got calls from people where they asked why they couldnīt access DB XY on Server Z... BUT Server Z is removed since 3 years ore more :-)

Maybe it can be combinated with a timestamp. So that all "chicklet" can be removed if I didnīt used them for X days/months...

I and others have touched on this issue over at Mary Beth Raven's blog - worth a read here: { Link }

This should be more of a administration function since they are the ones that decommission the servers. In theory this would be a good server-side function that the administrators setup to be run on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis to automatically remove chicklets for a specified server. If made available to general users also allow for finding new replicas on selected server at same time of removing chicklet for specified server.
