In an SMB environment especially, where Email is king of collaboration, and they don't have SANS or even an IT department, we need the disk space relief that DAOS gives.
The current releae IS shipping with Domino 8.5. Transaction logging is running, but no DAOS. You're not really supposed to go in and change any of the config because the autonomics will revert the settings back.
I am wondering if DAOS wasn't enabled due to the complexity it brings to the backup proceedure. I would expect them to enable it in the future since it would really take the disk space issue away in a lot of cases.
@Sean - I am sure that's the reason and suspect you have some insight there. The trick is to create a management process through Foundations WebConfig that can make restores simple. Even on the full Domino side its not that straightforward yet. Still the benefits like saving 40-60% disk space on average (depending on how the users use attachments in their mail) makes this a goal. Without DAOS the pain for Foundation shops will be the process of adding/upgrading disks when they run out of space.
